I don't work in the industry, but I follow it closely as It is my passion and I have been networking in apparel/footwear for a few months. Nike is the leader by a long shot in footwear. Doesn't matter if it's running shoes, basketball shoes, casual shoes, etc. they just make such a quality and trendy product when it comes to footwear. Under Armour has tried and continually failed to catch up. I really don't see them ever denting Nike's footwear revenues.

I would challenge you on the apparel side. Under Armour's product, in my opinion, is superior in regards to textiles. Their collared shirts and performance shirts look and feel better. I see kids everywhere wearing them. I've never seen anyone under 15 wear a Nike polo, they all wear UA polos. Nike does dominate the licensed apparel and team apparel market though.

I'm up a bit, but nothing that makes me want to get out prior to earnings. If earnings go poorly I will probably use that as an opportunity to buy more.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that
quote:

But people who are looking at the treadmills and the squat racks won't see the market share. They'll see Nike all day everyday. But where kids are going to. It's all UA.

In the way of a response...

quote:

McCaigBro69
quote:

Lol this must be based on location.

The local high school where I live is sponsored by UA, but all the kids wear Nike gear other than their uniforms (cleats, football visors, shooter sleeves, basketball shoes).

Nike is BY FAR the better product.

I work in the sports media and see apparel choices daily by athletes and Nike trumps UA in every way. Until UA can make shoes and apparel that can be worn casually it won't come close to Nike's success.

By that, I mean Nike airmax shoes, Roshes, Jordan Brand are a good example. No one wears UA shoes out and about, especially athletes who have a choice.

The only people I know that wear UA by choice are 40+ year old dads and I am around high school and college athletes daily.

Setting aside the fact that no one was talking about quality as much as they were talking about the overall health and the upward trend of the company in terms of sales and market share amongst youth kids and their parents...

Let's look at today's information about Under Armor's latest sales and earnings data they disclosed...

quote:

Under Armour UA +6.80% posted a double-digit rise in revenues and profits during its first quarter, driven by the wild growth of its shoe business.

I'm sure this must be strictly a regionally geographic-based phenomenon though. That and 40+ year old dad's are much larger demo than anyone ever thought.

Let's continue...

quote:

Revenue in the quarter jumped 30% to $1.05 billion, beating analyst estimates of $1.02 billion. This wasn’t an accident, noted management on a call with analysts and investors, since Golden State Warrior player Stephen Curry also averages 30 points per game. Last quarter, Under Armour posted 31% year-over-year growth.

Again...who knew 40+ year old Dad's were such huge Steph Curry Fans? Or that they had such a huge spending power to move the needle that much. Don't they know Nike is BY FAR the better product? I mean...sales and profits should follow quality ALLLLL the time right?

quote:

Shoe sales surged 64% to $264 million during the quarter

Again, who knew 40+ year old dads were spending hundreds of millions of dollars on tennis shoes?

Let's rewind a little bit and focus on this nugget from the response to my initial post...

quote:

McCaigBro69

quote:

No one wears UA shoes out and about

Who is wearing the hundreds of millions of dollars worth of shoes that Under Armor sold, I wonder...?

quote:

Shoe sales surged 64% to $264 million during the quarter

Well, it doesn't matter...After all, here's what we should know from a subject matter expert regarding Under Armor...

quote:

McCaigBro69
quote:

The only people I know that wear UA by choice are 40+ year old dads and I am around high school and college athletes daily.

Sounds convincing and reasonable. Wait...What did the sales data have to say about this subject?

quote:

Apparel sales jumped 20% to $667 million, led by the popularity of training and golf clothes. Accessory sales rose 26% to $80 million as consumers bought hats, headbands and bags.

WHO IS FORCING ALL THESE POOR PEOPLE TO WEAR UNDER ARMOR AGAINST THEIR WILL!

quote:

McCaigBro69

Since you've let us know that...

quote:

I work in the sports media

Can you help us with some investigative journalism about who are the 40+ year old Dad's buying this stuff and why are they forcing millions of people to wear it?

Or are they buying it to take it off the shelves because they don't want to see it compete against the Nike Stuff and maybe donating it to impoverished countries because they hate seeing it in stores so much?

It's had lots of movement in recent months. Opportunity to correct the position.
I sold my shares this morning, only because there was enough profit for the taking.
I plan and I think I will get back in sub $42 at some point soon.
In general I like this company and think it's going to continue to grab more market share.
I'm long UA.

I teach high school. It's all over the place. It is certainly possible that I encouraged my students today to start the Under Armour shoe revolution.............

Under $40 after the news of two executives leaving. Was about to buy some few days back but luckily it takes some time for money to go from my bank into Vanguard.

Any change after the announcement of Harper receiving the biggest endorsement deal in all of baseball?

God I love Bryce. Wish Nike didn't miss out on him.

Also, UA does have a huge baseball following. They have the biggest name in the sport along with Kershaw and Buster Posey.

What happened a month ago that dropped the share price in half? I assumed split, but most of the graphs are showing it as a percentage decrease. With spplits, the graphs are usually updated with the new weight.

Also, at what point does this stock enter the attractive area as opposed to too expensive
