For those in Louisiana, state estimated income taxes as well as Federal estimated income taxes are due today for the third quarter, 2014.

Damnet...
There is no greater feeling of wasting money for me than writing estimated taxes checks to the Feds and to the state.
On the other hand, I wish every taxpayer had to write a check 4 times a year just to make it more painful and perhaps wake some people up.

yes, but most people wouldn't be able to plan for that and thus the govt would lose out on a lot of money, or at least have it come in late.
Heck, my aunt has to pay quarterly taxes, she has a masters degree and is pretty sharp. She never has enough cash to make payments. So she has to borrow money to pay them, I feel sorry for grandmother. My aunt is 70 fwiw. Its pathetic.

I did however just get switched from 1099 to W2. I haven't been W2 in about 6 years. This will be weird.

Call us back in December when you write that property tax check.

Crap I forgot. Mine are going to be late.
On this note, does everyone on here pay quarterly taxes after taking profits in trading/investing?

I can say positively I'm coming out ahead......compared to what I'd pay in NOLA vs Texas.

Everyone's situation may vary, but I ran the numbers a few years ago when I moved from Houston back to New Orleans.
Houston: Higher property taxes, higher car registration fees/taxes, no sales tax on food and medicine, no income tax
NOLA: Lower property taxes, lower car registration fees, reduced sales tax on food and medicine, income tax.
Our total state and local tax burden in Houston was about $100 less than it was in NOLA. However, if we would have stayed in Houston, we would have bought a house more than twice the value of our current house, and thus our property taxes would have gone way up, making a larger burden in Houston.
