I finally paid off my orthodontist bill for invisalign. At the time I was unable to get braces because of my job so it was either invisalign or wait another year for braces. It cost me around $5500, I paid $2K up front and paid more and more each recourring month. I made the final payment today. I also got an A+ on my winter course final exam today. Too bad the lottery isn't today because I'm feeling great. Paying off debt is an awesome feeling.

I also made a post on here a few months ago about throwing extra money at my car note, so to update those who posted in that thread I will have my car paid off in May (it was a 5 year note, will have it paid off in 2.5 years). Will work on my wife's vehicle afterwards then hopefully be debt free for awhile.

What type of job doesn't allow you to get braces?

That is probably a good thing. You already finished on a strong note, no need to slip up now.

A job that had me constantly going to 3rd and 2nd world countries where ortho treatment wouldn't have been available if something went wrong.

Yep. The day I paid my last mortgage payment was one of the best days of my life. That was 5 years ago now and I'm now spending my money on home repairs.

That is awesome 13!

Keep it up. I felt better and better each time I paid off a bill. It is a freedom that you can't put in to words. I am down to only a mortgage bill now.

In five more years, I will be completely debt free.

Not worth it's own thread, but I refinanced some student loans (saving over 70k over the life of the loans, yeah, I have a lot of loans) and paid off some credit card debt this last week. I'm out of non-student loan debt and it does feel great!

I do not know how others feel, but debt hanging over my head causes stress and fatigue.

Over the last 15 years - Every time I paid off a substantial bill, my mood improved at work. It is a completely different feeling to know you could quit a job or take a lower paying job and not have to change your lifestyle a bit.

It is not a brag. It is an encouragement to others. Try it sometime. You will be so glad you did.

Other than a house note now, I haven't had any debt of any sort since 2004. Makes life so much easier to not have debt. And when we wrote the check to pay off that car in 2004 it was like a weight was lifted. And I just have made choices to not have debt.

One caveat when I did buy a car, I did dealer financing for $1000 cash back. But I paid it off in a month.

eta: this was a brag

We cleared our debt last month, mortgage, school loans on children and credit cards earlier in the past year. Carry note on my vehicle but am loathed to paying it off, though we could.

Is a nice place to be and got there much sooner than we anticipated.
