how much do you pay for homeowner's insurance?

I'm currently paying $170 per month, and they're about to raise my premium to $205. It's a small little house in Mandeville, about 1350 s.f, value perhaps $155,000, raised, not near the lake or anything.
I've had the same insurance company since I bought the house 3 years ago and I've literally never filed a single claim. $205 per month...that's over $2400 per year. This seems WAY high to me. What are you guys paying and who is your insurer?
EDIT: after doing a little investigating, I think the $205 includes both Flood insurance and Homeowners. I dug through my insurance papers and the Property insurance is $1817 for a year...but this still seems a bit high to me.

Are you buying your policy from an agent who represents a single line (State Farm, Allstate, etc...) or an Independent Agent who shops your specific situation on the market and finds the best deal for you?
If the answer is "yes" to the single line agent, you are propably paying too much for all your insurance.
I'm not in Mandeville, look up a local Independent Insurance firm there and go talk to them.

In Alabama, no flood insurance and not in high risk/hazard area
2700 SQFT
~$300k home
I believe I am "overpaying" for $90 but I like USAA more than the alternatives. I believe a solid estimate in my area is $65 for my home

I was paying about what you are for a 175k housebin south LA. I found cheaper from smaller "shop around" agencies, but when I bundled car jnsurance and boat insurance, it was worth it to stay with allstate (barely). In Texas now and although property taxes wipe out any difference, its unbelievable how much less I pay. Like 800 for twice the house.

Same here. I'm paying Allstate about $80 a month in Alabama on a $200k house, including bundled auto policy. Combine that with rediculous property tax rates and I don't have much to complain about.

$1,771.45 per year through USAA or $147.62 per month.
Approximately 2400 square foot of living area. Located south of I-10 in Ascension Parish.
Had a hail storm come through our area approximately 1.5 years ago and even though my roof had minimal damage and was only 5.5 years old, they replaced the entire roof. No questions asked. For that reason, and after having to file a claim for my former automobile, along with an excellent customer service experience I receive when I call their 800 #, I won't switch from USAA.

2% Hurricane deductible though.
We don't have any tall trees around our house which is why we went that route
ETA: I use a broker out of Lafayette called Quality Plus Insurance. Awesome family run business that has been incredibly helpful whenever I need something.

2% hurricane deductible, south of I-10, $2400 on new construction, with a substantial reduction for length of policyholding & other bundled policies. That's considered quite cheap in my area, I know new-to-the-insurance-market residents in my 'hood who easily pay 50% more.

Just happen to have this in yesterdays email...
Required in Galveston County
quote:
flood insurance but it is around 350-400 annually. I keep the building and content coverage pretty high, so they could probably select another plan and save a few dollars.
Homeowners is 733.00 annually. This includes 177k for dwelling, 17k for other structures 71 k for personal property, 300k personal liability, 5 k for medical payments to others, 35k for loss of coverage, and 5K for fungal/rot remediation.
Windstorm is 1551.00 for 181 k dwelling and 66 K in contents.
