Getting rid of office phones .. giving employees that money

Do any of you work for a company that does not have inter-office telephones and instead pays employees a "rental fee" for them to use their own cell phones for work purposes?

How much is the typical fee? I have to host/participate in conference calls a lot during the day so it would take a lot for me to give up a dedicated landline...

I work from home. Company pays for my cell phone.

Saving 1,000 dollars a year is amazing.

but then your customers/clients have your personal cell phone number and can call you when you aren't working, that wouldn't fly with me

My company pays us $100 a month to keep our work email on our personal cell phones. We don't give the numbers out to clients but they can transfer calls from office land lines to our cell phones if necessary.

and then what happens when and employee quits?

The contact number your customer/client has goes with the ex-employee?

I don't think this is a good idea. Will cost a company more than it will save.

My mom would hate this. She is on her phone 90percent of the day with people and she loves her speaker phone at work.

Depends on what the employee's job is/what the company does.

For me, I have maybe 10 contacts to operate what I do for them, so me taking the phone and # wouldn't be a real problem for them.

Other companies I could really see the issue.

What kind of company doesn't have inter-office land lines? Do you not market your company and its "business" number. In addition, my company pays for all cell phones for employees that work outside of the office. We do have to submit cell bill with other expense reports.

"Business" number answered be receptionist then transferred to cell phone.

This isn't complicated. I don't know why I have two phones at my desk. I give everyone my cell number to return calls.
