Siem Reap, Kanchanaburi(WWII stuff and Erawan Falls), Bangkok, then Ko Yao Noi or Railay/Krabi for beach.

Not enough time for Chiang Mai.

And I think Ho Chi > Hong Kong based on readings only. We thought about Vietnam/Cambodia but that requires even more time to do properly.

PS. Y'all wake up too early

Took a new position at work and will be getting reimbursed for gas, most food purchases and a few flights and hotels throughout the year. What would be the best card to maximize the points on all that?

How's your credit? Do you have any CCs now?
Which airline will you be using?
Do you want cash back or to redeem for travel?

ETA: A wiki outline at top would be nice. Get it together, Chicken.

I've been flip flopping. I think both would be cool and wish I had time to do both. Hate to visit a city and not have at least 2.5 days or more.

Railay/Krabi for beach
I looked at those as well as Koh Samui. That Conrad Hilton looked pretty sweet. Each room has its on plunge pool

It sure does look sweet. I figured being on the west side allows for visiting a bunch more beaches if we decided to take longboat to one. At least, that is my theory.

My guys start at 6 and get off at 2. I work longer but generally finish the day in my home office which is less distracting.

I've read that as well. How long is this extravaganza?

All downhill from there.

No. Nope.

What industry allows those hours?
I can't do 6 AM start. That's tough.

Data center work. I have a cabling company. The electricians (union) start at 6 so we come it at the same time.

I have a healthy 14 days on the ground, spending about 3 days every where with 5 days at the beach at the end so we come back all relaxed.

Every time I watch the video I just laugh uncontrollably. My brain can't handle the fact I want to ride that.

The friend I'm bringing with me is "going in blind." He has heard of Cedar Point, but doesn't want to ruin it googling anything. That should be fun.

My credit score is around 780 but I only have one CC at the moment - Discover IT. I can choose the airline I want.. Mostly flights from Pitt to Nola and back. Cash back would be ideal but I wouldnt turn down redeeming for travel if there were better deals.

Where do you recommend?

WIll be doing at least 3 days in Bangkok
Debating between Ho Chi Minh and Hong Kong.

Debating between Phuket and Chiang Mai. Beach or mountains?

Bangkok is crazy busy, but there's fun stuff to do. If you like beaches, Phuket, Krabi, and Koh Samui are some great spots. I lived in Phuket and it was pretty cool, you can do beaches or hikes in the mountains. Kinda easy to hit a bunch of different stuff up.

If you like laid back, green, mountains, then Chiang Mai or Rai were awesome. I really enjoyed Chiang Mai, we stayed at the Le Meridien. In Chiang Rai, we stayed at Anantara which had an elephant training camp on property. We went to Burma and Laos just to say we hit the Golden Triangle

Siem Reap

Was awesome. Great hotels near the temples and for reasonable prices. There's a new Anantara there now. That's where we worked while living in Thailand and they have top notch hotels.

Definitely a place to visit. Next time..

Debatable. The food in Hong Kong > Saigon. But it sounds like you're a history buff like me, so going to the Cu Chi tunnels and riding on the Mekong Delta, etc was really interesting.

Now we're talking. I've been wanting to go to Cedars Point and King's Island for years. I want to do a full on roller coaster road trip at some point. When we were in Stockholm in July, we hit up a roller coaster park there. I love that shite

Ya, our parents allowed us kids to pick vacation, which basically revolved around roller coasters in ATL and TX. Since teenager years, the best I could do was Islands of Adventure and all that, so I'm super pumped to get back to my roots.

I'm probably going to stay at the Le Meredian in Siem Reap due to Starwood points.

And you're right about Ho Chi and the history. Plus my dad was there during the war so it would be cool to be able to say I did the same.

This is humorous. I try to look out for stuff like that on trips, the stuff that seems American normal but isn't. Its like the Twilight Zone. I found out New Delhi had a theme park but decided against that. Probably why I'm here still typing.

For sure, it's so cheap on points. Points and cash were really cheap in Chiang Mai when I stayed there and I think it's the same category.

I went to a roller coaster park in Spain when my cousin was in Rota with the Navy. Can't remember where, but there was a little part of me worried about it

BTW, the first day get the concierge to help you with a taxi service and then just barter with the guy for the next few day(s) you'll use him. I only paid like $20 a day and had a dude bring me and my wife all through the temples. Oh and you should go get your tickets the day before you're heading to Angkor Wat (after 4pm or something). You'll get to watch sunset that day for free and then you can go for sunrise the next morning
