Met my minimum spend on my CSR yesterday. Opened up a CSP today for those bonus points and that puts me at 4/24 until May. Will have 175,000 bonus points to spend and $600 in travel credits soon.

Yes ofcourse. Personally I've been to the KLM lounge. It was pretty nice. Your other option is the Air France lounge. Go to whichever is closest to your gate. Both in terminal D (international terminal)

I think my flight is out of A. The priority pass gets you into the Air France lounge? Is it better than the untied lounge? I have 4 passes to that

I've never been to the UA lounge in Houston. But my guess is - yes. But if UA lounge is in A, that is the one I would go to.

What has been your best redemptions out of MSY to Europe or Asia destinations? Looking for a trip sometimes next year. Any recommendations to best utilize my points to these destinations? thx.

Well this depends on what you like. Personally, I LOVE Asia way more than anywhere else, so if you are looking for suggestions, I would definitely suggest that.

However, I am planning a trip to the South Pacific in 2018 which I think has a lot of potential to be my best redemption ever. I will visit Fiji, Australia and Vanuatu if all goes to plan. Depending on what points you have, this could be something you could look into as well.

That South Pacific trip sounds awesome and I would definitely be interested. Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Korea are all also on my list to visit sooner or later.

I have done all the US and caribbean destinations multiple times and want to start using points to venture out, but just dont really know how to maximize them. Any direction on optimal point transfers would be appreciated.

I would also be interested in best redemptions from MSY. Seems like all the international deals are out of the larger major airports.

This is kind of a broad question. "Best" is kind of subjective.
For me it means going to a "X" destination. For you it may mean flying in Business/First and staying in 5* hotels. So if you can be a little more specific, I could help you out. You have enough points to do it all/anything.

Further - Usually, it wouldn't matter what airport you are flying out of as long as you are booking well in advance. Since MSY, like JFK is in the North America region. It gets a little difficult when you use distance based programs where most likely you'd have to connect out of a major airport, thus adding miles. Flying out of a small airport like MSY only matters in the sense that you will have to make sure there is availability for 1/2 extra flights (to connect to a gateway) than someone living at the gateway would have to.

Sounds like we are in the same boat. Mainly looking for the best bang for my bucks (points) to "X" destinations and not necessary first class. I understand it's all very subjective and appreciate any help to further understand the system. I Don't even have a certain exact destination in mind at the moment (b/c I plan to go to them all at some point so it doesnt matter where I go first as long as the cpp is right lol). Just looking to learn the ropes and have a better grasp on rewards transfer.

Lets take Singapore for example. If that's my first destination for next summer from MSY, what airline partners would I consider and which points to use. Thx.

This is a special case - I would probably book this flight in economy through the Chase UR portal. Flights to SE asia are extremely cheap these days. You could transfer 80K to United for a RT or 45-50K when booking a revenue ticket through the UR portal redeeming points at 1.5c per mile.

Tickets to Europe/NZ etc are more expensive so it makes sense to make transfers there.

Unless your flight is over $1,200 to SE asia, it makes sense to just book through the UR portal.

Pretty much. J/F tickets are way more expensive. Economy is dirt cheap. Just need to do the quick math. Even Australia kind of makes sense to book through portal most of the time since tickets are under $1,200.

Thx for the insight. Looks like I have lots more reading to do on FT and Reddit. Im finally fully understanding the churn and MS part of it, just need to learn what to do with all these points now.

Care to share the specifics on your FIJI/ Australia trip? That is on the bucket list also.

Please explain a little. I was playing around with the UR portal and round trip ticket from NOLA to London non-stop was 83,000 points. Didn't seem too bad to me, but I am new to all this.
