3-08-2015 Staples.com 200 bonus points

I bought some diapers on my last order just to see if adding a physical product to the gift card order would make a difference when going through the portal. They gave me the portal bonus for only the diapers and not the GCs. I'm thinking they found a way to exclude only the Visa GCs from the portal bonus

How bad is New Orleans in July? My wife and I are thinking about a long weekend there as we have the USAir companion passes to use and I have enough points to stay at the Canal Street Marriott or the Ritz Carlton.

I'd really like to spend a weekend there eating and doing a couple of tours but don't want to wilt. We are used to northern Virginia summers which can be damned hot and humid in their own right.

IMO, it's bad. It's no longer enjoyable to walk around the FQ/Downtown and just stroll along hopping in and out of bars/restaurants/shops/markets without sweating like a pig.

Ritz Carlton.

It's a nice hotel. They have a really good jazz band with Jeremy Davenport. WW2 Museum is very good for summer activties. Personally, I'd look for cooler options...Napa?

Not a bad idea but my wife isn't a drinker and it's cross country for us. It also has to be a USAir operated flight so that limits the destinations. We are looking at getting a second home in Florida so perhaps we'll use it to go to Tampa. We are fans of the Clearwater Beach area and would like to explore it a little more. Flights are also limited to the lower 48.

I got married last July in the Quarter. We were worried it was going to be too hot but really never noticed it. It'll probably rain in the afternoon, anyway. The Ritz is great but a slightly farther walk to attractions than the Marriott.

shite. .
July/August in S LA should not be a travel destination by choice. 92-95 with oppressive humidity is the norm. I'm not voluntarily going to a non-water destination with those temps.

Denver area? Lots of summer activities, good beer, Rockies game, and ummm a newly legal thing they have there now too.

Estes Park and Grand Lake do big fireworks shows for the Fourth if no fire ban is in place and some good sight seeing through the national forest.

Quite possible that the vanilla cards are the only ones affected. I received my WF card via email this morning, so I'll keep this thread posted on whether I get the email from Chase concerning my bonus points from using the portal.

And to the Lurkers in this thread. I just checked my square up app and got 13 referrals from here.

For the Lurkers reading this board, feel free to jump in. Most of us love talking about this and learning new things.

Judgement free zone on the MT CC thread. The rest of TD...always risky

How does that work for tax reporting purposes? I mean, wouldn't that be payment and reported to the IRS?

As with all E-commerce and third party transaction sites, they will issue a 1099-K for more than $20k in transactions or 200 individual transactions.

ETA: This is a new arena for the IRS. There is no income created for this transaction, so even upon the event of exceeding the threshold, there would be no tax consequence. I'd advise one not to exceed the threshold just to avoid the additional filing requirements.

Makes you almost want to put those CC referrals all over this thread, but alas, that would ruin our beautiful judgment free zone.

Pretty cool there are people getting some use out of the thread though.

Finally making the switch to Bluebird to Serve (not sure why I didn't do so earlier)

How long does it usually take for that to happen? I cancelled today and Serve won't let me create an account online yet. The CSR said it could take "up to" 31 one days to close Bluebiard to enabled me to open serve

Now that Serve has stopped allowing online credit card loads, I'd imagine they are basically identical and switch is rather pointless.

If anything, your want "Redbird" if you can get it.

One was definitely me. I just rarely ever post on TD, but I love reading the different threads (especially this one). I like reading everyone's thoughts and learning new things. Really enjoy the credit card game as a hobby.

Planning a vacation for me and the wife with all the miles and such. Tentative itinerary includes stopover in Istanbul, day in Cairo, eventually end up at Victoria Falls (do a game drive while we're there), and then stopover in Abu Dhabi/Dubai before heading back. Wish I had more time to hit Cape Town while I am down there, but it is what is.

That's a pretty wild trip. Istanbul is cool, you will love that. I had to pick it or Cairo when I was studying abroad in Greece, so hopefully you come back and talk about it.
