Not to be a buzz kill but what's everyone thoughts on traveling to Europe right now?
I've got a trip planned in May to Europe- Amsterdam, Mainz, Cologne, Paris and mayb another German/French/Swiss city.
We orginally had Brussels on our itinerary but now we are thinking we may just skip that after the recent attacks.

Ironically, Brussels might actually be the safest place to go to right now. Ever seen an attack on a city twice in succession after day 1?
Many here, including me, have trips planned to Europe. Don't worry about it too much. If something was to happen, it could happen anywhere. Safe travels!

Same here. frick them.
If it's my time, it's my time. I'd much rather die doing something memorable that I love than staying home living in fear of those savages.
Lynx, what is your plan for touring the Fjords? Are you doing it yourself or with a tour? They're pretty pricey..

That's way too many places for 14 days. Pick a smaller area to explore.
Sorry I wasn't clear.
We're trying to pick 3-4. Ideally 3.
Those were just the choices.
Looking like flying into Norway, tour the Fjords, head to stockholm, then Hvar, then Berlin to hang out and fly home.

Any of you other guys toured the Fjords? Def. could use some recs there.
I'm totally cool going rogue and doing it myself if that is doable via car or train or cheap boat rental.

Skip Berlin maybe? Norway looks like an awesome place. I would look into Finland. But really, I would have no problem spending a couple of weeks in just Scandinavia
I have heard that in Norway you can do that "highlights of norway" tour. Its called something similar to that. They include boat, train and road trips in their multi-day itinerary. Though not a fan of guided tours myself, that would be a good place to start. See what places they hit and build on that. Tripadvisor and Fodors are good resources as well.
I also invest in a guide book or two for the place that I am going to. You'll see tons on amazon. Go with the one with the highest reviews and a description that suits your style

Yea, it's just cheap to get home and I haven't spent "time" in Germany. Feel like I need to if I'm going over there. And if we're going down to Croatia, it makes sense to stay in that area.
One of the guys hasn't been to Europe, so def. want to give him at least 1 large historical city on the main continent.
We talked about Budapest, but I hear the language barrier is pretty strong there, not that its a bad thing, but for short time period, feel like better to be in places we can easily communicate/navigate.

For sure, I still have "Let's go Europe" from my last trip.
Great book.

There is a hop on hop off in Oslo that I plan on using as part of the Oslo Pass.
The best fjords are not near Oslo rather on the western side of the country so I don't know if I will do anything more than that boat trip. Yes, the Norway in a nutshell trips are pretty expensive.

Fly into Bergen and then take the trains heading East that connect you to Voss and the other fjords. Get to Oslo and then take a 4 1/2 hours high speed train to Stockholm.

Am I correct that the best way to get to Italy is to use Avios and fly Aer Lingus from Boston into Dublin and then Dublin to Milan?

This will vary depending on city of departure. I flew from ATL into Milan a few years ago if I recall correctly.

Just bought my flight to Bergen. $277, what a steal.
Gotta figure out what is next, any of you guys been to Copenhagen vs Stockholm?
Me and 2 friends are trying to do Fjords, another major city we haven't been to and a beach.
Beaches would be Lagos, Hvar or possibly South France.
Cities would be Budapest, Berlin, Prague (Ive been).
Any comments you guys have would be awesome. Probably doing this in 14 days.
I went back to your original post so that I could see all of your options.
Personally, I would go:
Bergen (explore fjords going east to Oslo...high speed rail to Stockholm...fly from ARN to Hvar / Amalfi coast / some other beach
You don't even have to spend time in Oslo...it is just the major hub for Norway so a logical choice as you head east from Bergen.
Croatia is on my list. I remember reading great things about Zadar in particular.

Depends on how much you're paying to get to Boston and then on from Dublin?
I am flying MSY-MIA-LHR-MXP and then MXP-MIA-MSY in J for 90K AA + ~$90ish. You could get direct MIA-MXP as well and come out even lower on taxes. (Although now this would be 105K AA J). You could do the same trip with 54K in Economy. I would say that could be right up there with one of the best ways. You will have to calculate the "value" of 29K additional miles compared to your cash outlay for the positioning flights.
You could also go UA way and build in a stopover. Depending on how valuable that stopover is, maybe this could be another good option?

I can get round trip from Dulles to Boston for $150 or less.
RT Boston to Dublin is 25k Avios coach or 75k Avios in business class.
Then a cheap flight to Milan from Dublin or use Avios or OneWorld miles.

Say another 100-150 for the last leg.
So you're essentially "buying" 29K points for 250-300$. Less than 1 cpp. If you don't mind the connections, it does seem to to be the best

Yea, we'll either do that or take a flight.
Just depends what is cheaper. Sometimes train tickets aren't that great of a deal, but it would be super scenic, that's for sure.

Train from Oslo to Stockholm is $23.49 USD (195 SEK) per passenger with a 2nd class fare. I may have just booked this last week
