Anyone here been to Poland?

I feel like I'd have to hit Auschwitz although tough, but necessary.

Krakow or Warsaw?

Budapest was nice but I wish I would have went to Krakow

Check out /r/travel there's a lot of good info there

From what i remember there's the salt mine/castle, vodka, ice bars, the highest rated hostel in the world or was (greg and toms).

krakow. no question.

Krakow was ok. Spent a week there 10 years ago. Good go out scene, relatively inexpensive. Auschwitz and the salt mine are must dos.

I liked Budapest better than krakow though.

I studied abroad in Warsaw when I was in college in the 90's not too long after they democratized. I really enjoyed it although we mostly focused on beer gardens and studying while in Warsaw. I'm sure it has changed a lot since then, but we had a blast. Krakow was a great weekend trip as was Gdansk. My most memorable experience was going to Auschwitz. It was truly humbling and terrifying. The only things remotely close to the feelings I felt there were the Holocaust Museum in DC and the 9/11 memorial/museum in NYC.

Did southern Spain last month. Leaving tomorrow for 10 days in Italy. April is Amsterdam for the tulips. May is a hiking/kayaking trip with some friends in Norway. June is southen France for a beach trip, then another beach trip in Croatia in August.
Haven't decided on the fall yet, but I may be out of vacation time.

2 nights in Varenna to see lake Como. Then a week in Lucca (day trips to Florence, Siena, Cinque Terre...) We will stay in Switzerland for a couple of nights on the way back.

Nope. I live in Germany and have a European vacation allocation (30 days, not including the standard Christmas forced down time and bank holidays).

It's all about to change, though. I am being promoted, and the new job will have a lot more time demands. But I will pay for my family to take trips I guess.

Ahh that makes more sense. That is why you see Europeans everywhere. Americans just don't have the (vacation) time to take a 1-3 day flight to go somewhere far on vacation.

Funny thing is my European colleagues think I am crazy for my trips. When they take a vacation it is minimum one week. The concept of taking just 5 days in London doesn't work for them. We'd drive to France for a one night trip just for the cheese and wine, and that is insane for my colleagues.
I used to commute from BR to Houston weekly, so this is easy!

Awesome! My parents lived in Spain for the last 2.5 years. Between the rail system an budget airlines, they loved the freedom of going all over Europe.

I wish I could just be a travel blogger. There's something I love about airports, lounges, airplanes, and being in new places. I'm excited for my daughter to get a little bit older so we can start going on some trips together.

Hmm. I have a trip booked to Jamaica for 1 night. Leave on Saturday early morning, Come back Sunday afternoon in May.

Apart from that LA, Chicago and Vegas weekend trips.

Trying to do Rio for Thanksgiving (4 days)

I may have lost my mind. But I live by "no trip too far or short"

OP, solid thread. Thanks for putting this together. I'm looking for something this summer and will probably use this.

Just bought my flight to Bergen. $277, what a steal.

Gotta figure out what is next, any of you guys been to Copenhagen vs Stockholm?

Me and 2 friends are trying to do Fjords, another major city we haven't been to and a beach.

Beaches would be Lagos, Hvar or possibly South France.

Cities would be Budapest, Berlin, Prague (Ive been).

Any comments you guys have would be awesome. Probably doing this in 14 days.

I'm going to both in two months. I will report back.

I've been to Copenhagen before. One of my favorite cities in Europe.

That's way too many places for 14 days. Pick a smaller area to explore.

it was very different, but I think we liked it more. We did Seville, Ronda, Granada, and Grazalema. Lots of Moorish architecture, great food, and beautiful scenery in the Sierra Nevada mountains. It wasn't a "big city" like Barcelona so it is hard to compare... But after both trips, my family wants me to find a job in Spain.
