Most catching prospects that can hit have a defense rating of 45 out of 80. Ex look at Kyle schwarber. I don't think he projects as well of a hitter but definatly a better defender

you cannot understand how far away he is from this.

There are 30 starting catchers and then a lot of backups who are very expendable. Becoming a starting catcher in the big leagues is about hitting. Unless you are just out of this world defensively (and I mean top 2-3 on the planet or are in a catching poor org) you have to fricking rake.

Hitting well in college doesn't really mean anything. Look at Zunino from UF.

Also, 4th year college seniors have the longest road possible. They'll get no money, no status and he'll have to go absolutely nuts the second he gets started to keep his head above water.

Him being a senior will be one of the only things keeping him from being drafted very high. No leverage

Asllan is not an average fan. He's a SUPER fan!

Once you take the P&G glasses off, it's all about his hit tool, and will it project in the majors? If he grades out as an average ML defensive catcher than his bat needs to carry him and that's no guarantee, he has hit college pitching for contact with decent power.

He's obviously a hard worker and I think everyone hopes the best for him, but it's all about projection and as a player gets older the perceived ability to develop diminishes. Thats not to say a senior won't develop into a major league player, but that's a factor scouts take into account when looking at every senior who happens to lead their team.

Even the heralded senior signs like Matt LaPorta face an uphill climb.

Of the 40 catchers that have batting average stats posted for 2014 on ESPN.com 17 have batting averages of 259 or less. LINK

Scivicque will play MLB because he rises to the level of competition and works hard. He has the tools.

I don't know how high he will go in the draft but he will be a big league player.

He's a great defensive catcher and a solid hitter. Even if he isn't getting love, he's likely getting serious consideration.

Being a senior has no affect on where you are drafted it has a effect on how much money they offer you

This.

I assume you have read me enough to know I consider your "Super Fan" comment to be an insult. So, I will take it like a man and say, "Thank you." I am sure that you mean well.

Explain mark appel going 1.1? All the other seniors who go first round or improve their draft stock? Being a college senior does not change your talent it just makes you almost a garuntee to sign so teams offer you less money. Thinking that being a senior will drop your stock is just dumb, if you improve then so does your stock.

I guess I should add some color because this is not far off from the truth, but the rationale behind it is wrong. The MLB drat has a bonus pool with rules, where each slot has an assigned value and exceeding the value of the pool allotted for the top ten picks incurs penalties.

Some teams will over draft a senior (say round 7-10 talent) in the 3rd round and sign them for $10,000 because they lack leverage. If the slot value for that pick was $200,000, then the team now has an additional $190,000 that they can use to go above slot value on another pick (say a HS player contemplating college).

In that sense there is a chance that a player like Scivicque could go top 5 rounds, but it would be a draft position based on his signability/leverage and not talent.

this is wrong.

The dream is for a team to be able to take a 4th year senior early on if his talent is on that level because then they know they can get him for below slot.

I think he has a pretty weak arm from home to second. Ball seems to float and bounce before it gets to Bregman. Seen that happen more times than not
