It saddens me to read this thread and especially this comment.

You are a fair weather fan.

Those blue haired fans sitting in the lower bowl are not fair weather fans. They attend even when the team is struggling and playing a subpar opponent. If not for them, there would be a lot of empty seats at many games. I've seen that at the when the women play on TV, and that is not good for recruiting or for LSU generally. The older fans are no excuse for keeping quiet at games or not attending at all.

I sat in the student section for the 1990 games against UNLV and Loyola Marymount, so I know that it can get loud and has gotten loud. The name "Deaf Dome" was invented for a reason.

One way to get it loud is to increase attendance. I don't know why the students don't fill the place. What else besides studying) could they possibly be doing on a Thursday night unless the screwdrivers at Fred's are still $1 until 9 p.m.? Seriously though, there will never be another time in your lives when it will be easier to go to LSU games. Get over there and support our team--loudly!

One word - wrong

They didn't sell booze in the 90s and the place was rockin. It's all about the product on the court. Simple as that

LSU fans are some of the biggest bag wagoners out there. They only act like they care when they're winning or its convenient for them

you honestly dont think crowd noise effects basketball games?

I never said that. Crowd noise affects basketball but not in the same way it does football.
I disagree wholeheartedly. In fact I think crowd noise has more of an effect in basketball.

Ready to make noise but it's the style of play. Same in football. No different.

Because we know we haven't had a good coach in about 8 years.

The PMAC is massive. 8000 people means a ton of empty seats.

The media table next to the student section really kills the atmosphere.

The mass of empty seats being so far from the court makes it seem all the more sparse and dead, discouraging noise.

Fewer drunk students

I have seen it get really loud in the past. Last year's game against Kentucky got pretty damn raucous.

It's probably because LSU basketball has not been consistently good since the early 1990's. There were the exceptions in 2000 and 2006, but in reality, as a product, the basketball program has been mediocre, at best. This could be said for college basketball overall. Where are the great teams that you could see develop like the Duke teams of the 1990's with Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley and Laettner? When was the last time you saw a dominant big man in the college game ? Shaq? That was twenty plus years ago.

When Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant went straight from high school to the pros, college basketball became a second rate product. Think about it from an LSU perspective, anytime a really good big man emerges he's basically one - maybe two- and done. Stromile Swift did not emerge until his sophomore year and then he was gone. Tyrus Thomas comes out of nowhere in 2006 and by June, he was gone.

The people attending the games maybe go because there is nothing else better to do, or they remember the days when the PMAC was jumping with spectacular play and maybe the hope one day that same atmosphere will return.

Basketball is a side hobby to most LSU folks. Football is the main dish.

If you want to make the games exciting, implement the old illegal defense foul that used to be in the pros or implement the defensive 3 second penalty if there is a defensive player hanging out in the lane for more than 3 seconds. That would effectively eliminate the zone "packing" that happens in college basketball and force players to run and move more. It would also create higher scoring games.

Zone defense makes college basketball incredibly boring.
