Why are LSU football fans so loud but basketball fans so quiet?

In a very entertaining game, where the Tigers really needed a victory, you could hear a pin drop most of the night. Read in the paper that there were at least 8200 people there. Decent crowd to not make much noise.

football fans arent loud fyi. just more of them. I promise when I was a student the 80000 were twice as loud as the 100000 now.

Makes it so painful to watch on TV. Mostly dead quiet the entire time. Makes it extra boring to watch.

Hell it's louder at baseball games

Maybe because basketball is a comparatively boring sport?

If the players don't give a shite, why should the fans?

I think its due to the demographic that buys the lower section tickets, ie old folks. I sit in the old folks section at TS and its usually quieter than most of the rest of the stadium. I am an old folk, myself.

Section 108 is the worse. Grumpy old folks. Near the back in of the game obviously I was on my feet hoping somehow our Tigers would pull out the victory. two men in there 60's behind me said, sir can u please sit down...? I turned around and just gave them that look.....I don't get it. Major sporting event and there are fans in that building that think we should sit quietly and pretend we are at the local Catholic Church.

At football games you try and get loud enough so the opposition can't hear the play call. You can't really do that in basketball.

Well, the 2-3 times the PMAC actually got loud last night, Auburn burned timeouts. If the place could sustain that level of energy, the opposition would eventually run out of timeouts and would have to just deal with the noise. There's a reason why Duke is practically invincible in their building.

Let's talk about the cheerleaders now. Why the hell are they in the building if they aren't trying to pump the crowd up at all? WOW, you can jump up into a large man's arms and balance your bony arse on his palm while shaking a pom pom. That doesn't excite me, and it sure as hell doesn't make me want to cheer for the team.

All we have is the band which by default shuts up the crowd when we need to keep the noise going the most. The system is flawed, but that's none of my business.
