JD was at one time a TE. I bet he plays in a TE role as an extra blocker, similar to what Mitch Joseph has done the last 3 years. He'll play G too, but I bet he's at TE a bunch.

I always thought Josh should've been at T. Seemed such a natural fit at tackle and a force-fit at G.

Hope he has a great final season!

Yep, in '09 he was listed at 6-6 281. Really looked out of place at guard.

Again, it was out of necessity. We had a lot of attrition at OL in the years leading up to and during JD playing guard. But it was never a natural fit.

And I don't want to be too negative on a player before the season. Hopefully he was able to get bigger and stronger during the year off and can help in the goal line TE/6th man type role.

However, if you get the chance to watch replays of games Josh D played in, watch the line of scrimmage, not the just the RBs like most people do. You will see why he consistently graded out so high. To call his play a "debacle" is a bit unfair.

This. Most people dont realize he was possibly our best player on the OL two years ago. JD will be a great asset to our team this year.

Josh is north of 300 now. 2009 was 3 seasons ago.......

I do think Collins is in a whole different class, but don't overlook josh d as a seasoned veteran. Hell, you may likely see a 3 guard rotation with josh, Collins, and josh w.

I suggested to Gordy/Charlie on an '09 post-game call that Barksdale and Josh should've switched positions.

Probably a flakey idea but I still make a lot of noise in TS!

No. He was never out best player. If you're referring to '09, the O-line was pitiful and so was the running game. We dipped down to 123 rushing yards per game that year. The lowest average since 1999 when we went 3-8 (1-7 in the SEC).

For comparison, we averaged 203 yards rushing last year without Dworaczyk, and 214 in 2007.

In 2010, our best O-linemen were Joe Barksdale and P.J. Lonergan. Williford and Hurst were solid too. Josh D and T-Bob were the weak links.

Dworaczyk is no better than Brad Smalling. At least Smalling started at tackle.

Everyone is acting like it's a problem to have quality depth. In the SEC, you better be deep up front on both sides of the ball. I believe it is Collins' job but JD will be a huge asset throughout the year

I doesn't ultimately matter. Someone will get injured and josh will slide over...

Miles thinking.

Start Josh cause he is almost as good and more senior. Then supplement him with Collins, and then ride a fresh Collins to wear down the opponent in the 2nd half.

I don't think it will or should be an equal rotation, but I'd like to see Dworaczyk come in occasionally to give the starters a rest. I see his best role as a limited one.

Overall, I think we see a considerable upgrade at the guard positions. Williford has been a pleasant surprise and has turned himself into a heck of a player.

Will Blackwell was really good at times, but was also prone to the occasional precipitous drop-off. On of those occasions, unfortunately was in the Championship game. An undersized Nick Gentry really worked him over for some huge plays. I can't see that kind of stuff happening with Collins in there. It remains to be seen what kind of player he is as a full-time starter, but just from a physical/talent standpoint, he really is on a whole other level than everyone else.

Btw, at the Alabama pro day Gentry checked in at 265, ran a 5.43, had a 24 inch vert, and only managed 7 reps on the bench press.

I met josh after the spring game - he was one of the only players to actually hang out with the fans in the parking lot. This guy is a 5th year senior who came back from an injury in the first game of the season. You dont pass that up for a sophomore who kinda acted like a diva as a freshman and will have two more years to start if hes that good. josh d's job.

Josh D is a 6th year senior.

And starters aren't picked based on willingness to "hang out." Collins is the better player, that is why he starts.

Josh has his role as a veteran leader (his communication skills can help there) that can sub in at multiple positions. And he seems to have a good attitude about it. From an article in the Shreveport Times by Glenn Guilbeau:

“I’m back for one reason, and that’s for this team,” Dworaczyk said. “I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the NCAA giving me another season and LSU giving me another opportunity. I didn’t come back because I wanted to be the starter. I didn’t come back because I wanted to have 40 starts. It wasn’t anything like that. There were no personal goals other than I want to do everything that I can every single day to help this team out.”

“Left guard is a position I’m fighting for right now,” Dworaczyk said. “But if it comes time for me to go in at tackle, guard, center, tight end, wherever, it doesn’t matter. Wherever that position is when my name gets called, I’m going full speed and I’m going to embrace it. Whatever my role is, I’m going to be happy with it, and you won’t ever catch me not smiling, I promise you.”

Don't you fans think that Josh's comments should be the end of this discussion?

What a great attitude. I hope for an injury free championship year for this guy.

I really see JD relegated to the the T Bob utility role. I think he'll start games, but probably not the full time starter.

Was Lyle Hitt on 2010? Hitt was pretty bad in 2009. I recall seeing him out at a bar and being surprised at how small he was.
