It's fricking pathetic that people think like that. LSU is the flagship of Louisiana and there isn't any other reason needed to be a fan. This thread would make since if it was directed towards out of state fans that never attended.

I grew up an hour and a half from BR, and my dad, who was not a college grad, but spent 35 years at the tire plant, was going to LSU games before I was a glimmer in his eye. He started taking me when I was barely old enough to go, including one incredible day when he took me and my brother out of school to go to an LSU game. I was addicted to the power of going to Tiger Stadium from the first moment I walked by the band as the drums played cadence while they marched into the stadium. Then I saw that giant, beautiful creature open up before my eyes and finally hearing that hair-raising roar as the band hit those four notes, or as the Tigers Stormed out of the tunnel and onto the field. Only a select few experiences in my life have matched that feeling and anytime I haven't been able to go to a game, I have been riveted in front of a TV or radio, hanging on every moment, every play. I am not as bad as I used to be when my week was ruined when the Tigers lost, but it still hurts to see them lose. That is why I am such a Tiger fan to this day and why it is so GREAT TO BE A TIGER FAN NOW! I remember the lean days when we were happy to be bowl eligible. I remember when Tulane was a threat to knock us out of bowl contention. I love our damned strong team!

Have you even read the multiple posts from the OP agreeing with your sentiments?
I thought not.

Well, there's no long list of alumni in my family. I was the first one in my family (on either side) to earn a college degree from anywhere. I went to LSU on academic scholarship (my only hope of paying tuition) and when I graduated, my entire extended family showed up for it! I think they were just so happy that some dirt poor farmers turned out a college graduate - lol.
Memorable games (for better or worse):
- student section - sitting in the rain in '86 watching our #8 ranked tigers lose to a team I'd never heard of at that time: Miami of Ohio
- student section - '88 Earthquake game (and I can tell you it wasn't the cheering that set off the seismograph but those bowing bracketed metal seats that we discovered made a great reverberating sound when we stood on them and stomped! )
- '03 Georgia game w/ESPN Gameday when the stadium was the loudest I'd ever heard it just after Georgia scored. Amazing! I swear, instead of quieting a crowd it had the opposite effect! It kept getting louder & louder til it was absolutely deafening. Never been prouder of the team or the fans.
- '05 Auburn game - Early Doucet dropped a TD pass which was crushing. But man, Auburn's kicker, that poor bastard just could not get one in. When that last kick thwapped off the goal post, people were cheering & crying & hugging strangers. Probably one of the most up & down emotional games I've ever attended.
There's a ton more but no one wants to read an even longer list.

Grew up a Tulane basketball fan in New Orleans. I enjoyed NFL football, but never payed attention to college until Tulane's undefeated season in '98. I adopted LSU football as my favorite team during their '01 SEC Championship run, but I never really considered going to school there. After a year in limbo at UNO, I ended up at LSU, joined TGBFTL and got to march on the field for pregame in the first game I ever attended in Death Valley. I've bled purple and gold ever since.

1st game:
1969 Homecoming vs. Auburn
Bevan blocks the XP
21-20
Heartbreak the next week at Ole Miss.
1969 team finished 9-1 ... no Cotton Bowl. No bowl game, period.
43 seasons ... and still going.

My grandfather was an engineer with the firm that designed North Stadium, making TS into a horse-shoe and later South Stadium, closing it into a bowl.
He was an LSU fan since the North Stadium job and sent his children there. We listened to games on WWL back in the 70s when I was a little kid, and I did not make it to Tiger Stadium until my freshman year when FSU beat LSU in the opener. I arrived completely drunk, but did learn during the game it is better to sneek bourbon in so you can pace yourself. I went to every home game from 83-89 and the only time I left early was Miami. I've got a couple degrees from LSU and between me and and other relatives there we have least 11 total. I met the mother of my children at LSU and my son is a student there now.

From Laffy, went to McNeese on a music Scholorship. Needless to say I had a hunger for real football/baseball. Friend had season tickets, couldn't go to a game. I walked into Tiger Stadium and fell in love...with everything. Tradition, atmosphere, SEC Football, the whole gameday experience. Now own football/baseball season tickets and spend a lot of time on I-10 East between Lafayette and BR.

My first game my mom was 7 months pregnant with me.
Been coming every year ever since.
Dad went to LSU Law.
I will be there also. Currently finishing up my poli-sci degree at LSU
and a to the OP for asking people to explain why they are LSU fans. Who cares, the more LSU fans the merrier. I know bigger LSU fans that didn't go to LSU than some that did.

I grew up a casual LSU fan in Natchez, MS. Neither of my parents were big college football fans and I went to one game while I was in high school. I looked at going to LSU, but ended up going to Millsaps College in Jackson, MS. Not much college football going on there either. After 2 1/2 years at Millsaps, I transferred to Ole Miss after visiting one weekend. I hated Ole Miss in high school, but in comparison to Millsaps it was awesome. I was a rebel (black bear) fan for a good while. In 2007 I met my future wife who was an LSU alumni and season ticket holder. She was EXTREMELY passionate about LSU football. We attended every home game that year and a few away games (even though we lived in Memphis). I was HOOKED! Her little brother and my little sister both graduated from LSU and we would go to every home game we could. I figure it this way... life is too short to not maximize my happiness. And being an LSU fan is a good way to be happy if you like college football. We now have a little girl who is dressed in Purple & Gold every Saturday in the fall. We've owned season tickets to LSU & Ole Miss since we met. We've been to 2 Ole Miss games (where LSU played them) and ALL but about 2 LSU games. I love LSU, I love my wife, & I love the state of Louisiana!

My dumbass sister got married on an LSU away game a few years back.
The reception consisted of her and kids dancing and all of us men watching TV.
We tried to tell her.
ETA: We weren't GLUED to it, I'm a better brother than that, but we SURE did watch it more than pay attention to her.
They got divorced a couple of years after anyway.

Though I have lived in North Louisiana all my life:
1. Been attending LSU games since the mid 1960s.
2. Was at the game when Pistol Pete scored 69 vs. Alabama.
3. Graduate degree from LSU.
4. Season ticket and RV parking pass holder.
5. Spend hundreds of dollars on LSU clothing and memorabilia every year because I can't stop myself.
6. My mood is affected for a whole season depending on the outcome of LSU football games.
7. Here's the main one for me - I still get the same exact feeling when I walk into the portal and see the whole stadium as I did when I was 12 years old.

These stories are pretty neat! Louisiana has had a profound effect on my life! I grew up in S. Arkansas, the home of Bear Bryant! Yes, I knew him and his family very well! I grew up an Arkansas and Alabama fan in the 60's and 70's.....got in oil industry in 1981, been blessed with a great career! I had always liked LSU ( brother in law was a cajun rice farmer), but when I went into TS for the first time (Alabama game in 2000), I said "that's it for me"!! NO matter where I go if i ever leave Louisiana, LSU is my TEAM! Even if they have some down years which will be inevitable at some time or another, I bleed purple and gold......and yes, I pull for LSU when they play Ala or Ark.....a friend in Ark asked me" what happened to your roots"? I said "roots got uprooted".....

This is my uncle - anyone recognize him?
LSU has been in our blood for a long time. My grandmother was an English professor at LSU. My dad graduated with a PhD in Psychology from LSU and met my mom who worked in admissions at LSU. I went to LSU but ended up graduating from UNO.
I grew up in Mandeville - moved there in 1965. You can probably guess where my dad worked.
