my mother and father met when they were both lifeguards at the Huey P. Long pool. Both graduated from LSU, it's been in my family my whole life. I graduated from LSU in 1989.

Holy shite! Would that make you a "Van Buren Boy"?

Mother graduated from LSU, Uncle graduated from LSU, Dad grew up in New Orleans as a big LSU and Saints fan. I may not attend LSU, but thats not because I don't like LSU.

Steelreign,
Your pic of the Vietnam memorial brought tears to my eyes. It's been too long since I've been back there. Did not expect that emotion to come out today.
SSgt USAF 1966-70. Made some very good friends and lost some very good friends.
Peace

As a Duck fan:
Stationed overseas in the 60s, Arm Forces radio carried a game live from Mac Court (aka THE PIT) UCLA vs. Oregon. I'd played bball there in the high school state tourneyment so I knew the court. UCLA dominated in those days and after being out of country for 3 years hearing a local team take it to UCLA was pretty cool! That was the start of becoming a Duck (after being raised on the Beavs). That plus a BS and MBA from Oregon.
New phase, sort of liking LSU after the way I've been treated on here. You've got great fans and deserve more. Whether they went to LSU or not.

Never set foot in an LSU classroom myself. My brother played at Texas, I went to Texas. Hell, my whole family is Texas pretty much.
My daughter got accepted in the fall of 2003. Got a call from the registrar congratulating her on her acceptance. I could not believe they called her. I thought that was pretty awesome. I mean, they called her? At Texas you get a form letter. I immediately put a deposit down on season tickets. They suck, but they are in the stadium.
Read all about the tailgating and LSU fans devotion to their team. Thought it was pretty damn cool. Texas fans are fairly blase and too cool, for the most part, to really get into it.
First game was the Florida game in 2003. Drove through campus on game day early and saw all that was going on. Wound up parking off Highland way the hell out. Followed a group of Florida guys into the stadium. All the way there they were giving LSU fans shite and the LSU fans were giving them shite back. But...the LSU fans were also giving them beer and food. It was the damndest thing I'd ever seen. I loved it. At Texas that led to fights. At LSU, it led to beer and food. shite, I was in heaven.
The 19-7 loss where the only points scored by LSU were on Skylar Greene's punt return. After the punt return, the noise was deafening. So deafening my ears short circuited. Again, I loved it.
I've since graduated to tailgating on the Parade grounds and just love it. It's good I didn't go to LSU, though. I probably never would have graduated and just been a perpetual student (or drunk) and hanging out around the university.
I've been around Texas football for a long, long time. I've been around LSU football for 8 seasons and four games. There is no comparison.
Louisiana people are my kind of people and LSU is my kind of school.
That's my story.

Went to my first football game in 1985. It was in Death Valley, and was hooked ever since. I grew up on Hundred oaks ave. just off of perkins road. Went to Lee High dasmn near lakeside of the LSU lakes. LSU is 90% of my childhood. If they Had a culinary school i would have paid the, god only knows, how much more money, and would have gone there.

Contrary to some people's beliefs, I don't think money makes you a fan or not. My parents have paid money in support of LSU, to what degree is no one's to judge. If you say you like LSU, and you follow them and your actions show that, then I have no reason to doubt your support regardless of anyother background.

Top you? I will try
My father's mother Bessie J. Meloncon and her brother James Jennings Meloncon both enrolled at LSU in 1915 Bessie was one of only a few females attending the school. Her brother James enlisted in the Army and went to war. My grandmother graduated with a degree from LSU in 1922 her brother did not. He died in combat World War I. His name is listed bronze in the Campanile on the campus of LSU. There is also a memorial oak tree in the Memorial Grove with a small plank bearing his name.
In 1942 my father enrolled at LSU but was soon drafted to serve in WWII. After the war my father returned to LSU to receive his degree.
On October 31, my father and I travelled by train from Shreveport to Baton Rouge to attend my first game at Tiger Stadium. While there we visted the memorial grove and I still have a picture of me standing in front of the tree still standing as a memorial to my great uncle.
Yes my very first Tiger Stadium experience was the Halloween game of 1959.
I enrolled at LSU in the fall of 1969 and during the five years that I attended LSU I was a member of Tiger Band and I play first and second base on the LSU Baseball squad.
In 1994 my olderst daughter was offered a scholorship to play softball for the Tigers. She elected to accept to play at nearby USL (now ULL)But her each of her three younger sisters has attended and graduated from LSU. But the biggest "brag" is that on October 3 2010 my first grandson Hastin was born prematurely. He was only 1 pound, seven onces. He was "touch and go" for several weeks. He was kept in the hospital for over three months. He will be one year old this coming Monday and he is perfect condition. One day in about 16 or 17 years from now he too will attend LSU and he will be the best football and baseball player in the history of The Old War Skule.

I was born and raised in BR. Being an LSU fan is in my soul and it is a part of where I come from. It wouldn't feel right to cheer for anyone else.
LSU did not offer my degree of choice so I went out of state. I don't regret it either. I lived on state street for a few years before I decided to go back to school and pursue something post high school. So I had all the partying experiences of LSU without ever enrolling. Sure it would be nice to have a degree from LSU so I can say I am a grad but that isn't that big of a deal to me. Either way I was still raised a Tiger fan and will always be one.
