They see LSU as the only school that would have hired Ed Orgeron as head coach of its football team.

I have family and friends in Michigan, Ohio, New York, Oklahoma, Cali and Oregon, among other places.

Regarding LSU-
academically acceptable, nothing more or less. A degree from LSU wouldn't guarantee a job, also wouldn't disqualify either.

Athletically (and keep in mind these are older people)- LSU is generally considered a likable team in most sports; recognizable and considered good, but not elite to the point that you would hate them.

Culturally, most out-of-staters perceive Louisiana as a big New Orleans with swamps around it, where everybody parties and does the Mardi Gras thing year round, and LSU, like the Saints, gets the spillover sentiment. They think we spend weekends at Tiger Stadium during the season, and partying in NOLA or fishing in the bayous in the offseason. Which, generally, is considered in a positive manner, not as an insult.

They view LSU as a total and complete joke academically.

I don't think anyone has that strong of an opinion on LSU academics. I'm sure they recognize certain colleges as superior academically if you were to throw out names like Stanford, Northwestern, Michigan, but I think if compared to other schools like Clemson, Arizona State, Iowa, etc people would have no idea what national schools are better or worse.

When I applied in a few cities and took interviews everyone brought up football and how they enjoy watching LSU play. Every single person mentioned how they've always wanted to go to a night game at LSU and tailgate as well. We have a pretty cool image is what I learned

Academically, no one thought any different of LSU than any other state school.

Why do you people say frick?

LSU is a land grant school and is seen as pretty decent with decent alumni network, like other state schools that are not public ivies (UVA, Michigan, UNC, CAL-Berk, and if I may, Texas). They are like a poor man's Texas A&M, but with "diversity" and not the weirdo cult like following and perverse traditions.

They must not have seen the TV commercials during nationally televised games. We love purple...we live gold.

Yes it can be. Myriad is also a noun.

LSU is always a conversation starter. The execs are intrigued by the southern accent, and of course they know our Football team. Because of LSU, the CFO of my company and I are friends. He went to Tulane and later Harvard, and is a Notre Dame fan. My boss points out that the CFO never comes to talk to him, only me, about college football.

I got an accounting degree at LSU, a good business school. While I learned everything I know in LA, the pay was shite. I work for a NE company, who moved down South, and doubled my pay. While I will always be a LA girl at heart, I will never go back.

That being said, I work with a lot of NE people, and they have no clue about college athletics. As stated previously, it is all about pro sports. They just don't get it.

UT and A&M are ridiculously hard to get into. Florida and obviously Vandy are only tough ones in SEC, maybe UGA.

This situation with UT and ATM is just supply and demand. Texas has an estimated population of 28million versus Louisiana being less than 5 million. No doubt LSU could be better academically but it doesn't have the revenue stream the two Texas colleges have.

Correct: myriad can be a noun or an adjective. But it would not be followed with "of." One can have myriad responses or a myriad of responses, but never merely myriad of responses.

As an academic, I can say other academics -- particularly from the Northeast -- look down upon an LSU degree. But, having taught several thousand post-doctoral students over nearly four decades, I've found LSU graduates perform exceedingly well. They frequently rank near the top of our graduate tax program. Students, even high-ranking students, from more "elite" schools often perform less well.

I wear my LSU degrees proudly and keep much LSU memorabilia in my office. But I must continuously correct colleagues on two significant issues. First, Louisiana is much more than New Orleans. Second, our civil law legal system is far superior to their common law system. I doubt I have convinced most; however, I have convinced them our food is better, we have more fun, and we appear more likely to help each other in a disaster than do people in many other states.

You don't get a better education just because you attent an IVY league school, but what you do get, is a culling of academic talent at the admissions process.

I know you're trying to make a point here but to say that you dont get s better education at an IVY league school vs LSU is false and a broad statement.

It varies widely with the programs offered. For example, UPenn and UVA have leading undergrad business schools that are highly
Competitive (you have to apply after your first year) and are treated like MBA programs. Although I will interject that I've heard the accounting program at LSU is in the upper echelon. Engineering programs may be pretty similar because the coursework is standard. At that point though, you are still dealing with differences in class size. Additionally, the strength of your class mates will be noticeably different. There's an enrichment with simply being around a "culled" group
of students. The talent level is ridiculous.

Let me put it this way. UVA difficulty was an order of magnitude above Tulane. And Tulane was an order of magnitude more difficult than LA Tech.

WVU doesn't anymore. They're over 50% out of state now. My brother and best friend go there so I visit often and I've only met a handful of people who go there that are actually from WV.

ETA: but perhaps when they play sports and all of the locals come out it's a different story.

From my experience, it's viewed as just another state school. Not great or bad. Most I talked to recognized LSU as a football program on par with Alabama as one of the elites in the country. For perspective, these conversations are with people I served with in the military that were from all over the place.
