It's been a while since I thought about the possibility of him leaving. Thanks for ruining my morning.

It was an interception back to the 3 yard line. We were up by 14 and he didn't just overthrow the TE by a couple yards, he air mailed it by 15 yards. Terrible pass. shite happens but complaining about people characterizing his play as a pick 6 when technically it wasn't is stupid.

What is stupid is complaining about someone correctly and factually stating it was not a pick 6. Now for the sake of your argument that AJ had a terrible game, which I agree he did, I guess calling it a pick 6, when it wasn't, is ok in your book.

My point was the fact the guy called it a pick 6 when it wasn't and added sacks to AJ's passing attempts, was an attempt to cast the worst light possible on AJ's performance. Obviously you are ok with that. Facts be damned.

I can agree AJ had a bad game without changing the way stats for QB's are computed or lying by claiming he threw a pick 6. That is embellishment to make the performance worse that it was. I graded AJ a D for his performance. But he didn't throw a pick 6 and he was not 7 0f 23 passing.

Right now he throws better to receivers going left to right, than those going right to left. He will get that straight, going to be great to watch him play

Less than a day and already the grumbles of bad QB for next year appear. You specifically and shitload of "fans" need to get a damned life with the keyboard not available to you to type upon.

This.

He wasn't as good as ZM. Which is what we watched all year, and it was damn good. Hopefully he continues to improve and we can see what he can do.

He was doing exactly what LSU needed him to do, and made a few really nice 3d down conversions, the scramble pass, and the rushing TD before the pick.

After he airmailed that interception he went into a shell and lost it a little bit. He'll be fine as he learns to work through those mistakes. He was bad in the second half, but for most of the first half he was executing the game-plan perfectly.

I'm sure there is a chance he was discouraged from attempting to run too much in this game as he never looked to do it after it looking so natural in the Arkansas drive.

It was half a yard and Iowa player not making a bone headed play from being a pick 6.

Nonetheless, he gift wrapped 6 points to Iowa.

This must've been the case. He didn't run at all, which is what many of us were looking forward to.

Edit: Well, not "at all" techinically, he did score that first TD. Added for those wanting to be petty.

I think AJ was starting to come into his own until the interception, then Miles put the kibosh on the passing game he didn't want to destroy they kids confidence like JLEE. Oh I notice the short side of the field option is back in the playbook. the QB play wasn't the greatest but it was good enough to win. I think the bright spot was he was able to manage the game and not have to put the team on his back and win the game.

Well said, I was not expecting a lot out of him in his first start. I was hoping he would be a little more mobile out of the pocket making a play. Overall it was a good start for AJ.

His poor play was, in part, the product of the offensive game plan.

Freshman QB, making his 1st start in wet conditions.

Les was going to win this game w/ the running game & defense.

I laugh at posters trying to pin part of the problems on the weather. Really? Man, that was a super slick ball Beckham dealt with one handed in a very awkward position to make a catch. It killed DB's for both teams trying to make interceptions. Hawkeye QBs couldn't even hold onto the ball....not really. Hell the weather was so bad Hill and to slip and slide his way to 216 yards on a terribly soft and muddy field...no, it was a pretty solid surface Hill was burning up. The weather, IMO, had very little impact on the performance of any QB in the game especially as the game got past the first Q.

I think AJ will be fine, but he really needs to work on his intermediate and deep balls, dude puts way too much air under the ball which is going to make his accuracy suffer and allow DBs to close before the ball arrives. It's obvious he didn't have the chemistry with the receivers that Mett had, but Mett didn't have that in game one as a starter, either. I'm not wasting time worrying about his bowl game performance when there is much more on the line this afternoon affecting future team competitiveness.

Jennings was pretty bad, although as many have said some/most of it could be contributed to the following:

1. The field was wet.
2. Iowa isn't really a familiar opponent.
3. It was his first start.
4. He's just not ready.

I don't care who you are playing, 7 of 19 for 82 yards is just not good, and his inability to feel the rush and maintain awareness in the pocket was really bad. If you thought he was good yesterday then you are one of those people that just cannot see the truth or refuse to say it. That being said, I agree with some of the other posters that have said it doesn't necessarily say anything about next year.

I did have some JJ flashbacks and him getting ready to snap the ball and give it back to Iowa at the end of the game with time on the clock was bad situational awareness.

He carries himself pretty well, but I recall a lot of people saying the same things about JJ after the Georgia Tech game, and we know how that turned out. I know it is a different day with a different quarterback, but I cannot help but think about the misses we've had over the years at QB and be concerned that next year could be a long year.

One thing is for sure, there are LSU fans that would stand by the QB if he was 0-20 with 10 picks and they would defend it to the end. Going back to 2000, it is bizarre how we continue to have such highs/lows at the QB position:

2000-Bad
2001-Good
2002-Bad
2003-Good
2004-Bad
2005-Bad
2006-Good
2007-Good
2008-Bad
2009-Bad
2010-Bad
2011-Bad (1st half good, 2nd half bad)
2012-Bad
2013-Good
2014-?

There are always hundreds of reasons/excuses, but 5 out of 14 bad years (my opinion) tells me where I would bet the farm if I had to.

I'm sure he'll do better next year with worse receivers.

I have no real concerns about this. We have successfully replaced Clayton, Reed, Myers, Brazell, Bowe, Doucet, Davis, Hill, Carter, Mitchell, Henderson, LaFell, Tolliver, Byrd, Randle, and I'm sure I missed a few over the past 10-12 years.
