I don't think it's a good idea under any circumstances to talk to police without an attorney present.

I agree. Search "Ryan Ferguson." 17 year old questioned in murder he had no part in and spent 10 years in prison.

If he is truly innocent. Does he have a case for slander? I mean ESPN, Peter King, and other Dickson pretty much buried him.

You must not be aware of the many men that sat in jail for 20 years who were innocent in the exact same scenario as you mention. Later they were found not guilty BC of DNA evidence.

You realize what you say to cops can be used only against you? If it's used for you, it's hearsay...
Do not talk to the cops without an attorney present, ever.

If I'm innocent I fly back to BR and face the fire out in front of the draft. I have an alibi and I read the cops the riot act. If I'm innocent and this bullshite is costing me millions and I know the consequence's two days before the draft, you would be hearing from me. I'm calling channel 8 news, ESPN whoever I can talk to so my story gets out there. It's to late now. It’s a crying shame but it is what it is.
Nope, nope, nope.
Anyone who knows anything about PR knows that saying anything publicly is a bad idea. You only open yourself up to added speculation, in a bad way. Even if you're 100% unequivocally innocent and completely uninvolved in any way.

Shelter just said "very disturbing story," in reference to Collins being "questioned by police about the murder of his ex." I know slander is notoriously difficult to prove, but Shefter is really going all-out on painting Collins in a bad light.

How is his not being a suspect "very disturbing?"
Posted on 4/30/15 at 10:54 pm to DontCare
I find this story to be incredibly disturbing.

Brittany Mills' murder is disturbing and incredibly fricked up. But it's disingenuous to suggest that that story--about Brittany Mills--has anything to do with what Shefter is reporting. He's not doing investigative reporting, he's capitalizing on a terrible crime to out-scoop other sources.
Posted on 4/30/15 at 11:16 pm to DontCare
Gotta prove that Schefter knows it is not true for any claim
Posted on 4/30/15 at 11:22 pm to John McClane
I realize that and that it's what makes claiming slander almost impossible to prove in court, but I'd say the fact that Shefter edited the original story he posted to make Collins' not being a suspect more prominent after being accosted by the LSU sports information director is a clear sign that he knowingly misrepresented Collins in that report. And he continues to omit that fact from his reporting.

Never talk to the police, ever, no matter the circumstance. Nothing at all to gain from it.
Fwiw: I'm a lawyer

Nothing to be gained.......except for helping the police find the murderer.
The nonsense spewed on this board is just shocking.

No it's common sense. Never speak to the police without a lawyer present.
