We are historically better than the other public universities athletically, besides LSU.

Mcneese, is the place everyone goes to when they can't hack it at ULL or LSU....
I know a ton of people who couldn't hack the nursing program, so they went to Mcneese. Don't get me started on the football program either in the last what 10 yrs. Mcneese has been horrible, no better than ULL has been. Yea, yea you use to be the shite in 90's. But lately its been slim pickins in D-II. No one ducks Mcneese in any sport. Have you ever thought that the oppenent they played instead of Mcneese was a better program?

I stopped reading the article when I came across this statement:
quote:

This designation elevated the university to the ranks of Georgia Tech, Louisville, Clemson, William & Mary, and the University of Mississippi.

Should be:

University of South Louisiana (USL) Ragin' Cajun Bulldogs

- this captures legacy, and is proportionately indicative of the status of the University in relation to others (number of degrees, masters, PhD's, enrollment, student demographics, research level, etc, etc, etc...)

This is the most accurate and appropriate identity, capturing history, culture, size, student population and pretty much all other considerations (and don't irrationally claim they do not represent all of South LA, because that would preclude Univ of South Florida, Western Kentucky and other schools from their rightful name).

I proposed this to Authement and pretty much the whole USL/ULL staff & administration, and got absolutely no traction...ego and irrationality prevailed, thus an issue that could easily and appropriately be put to the side, persists to this day.

TulaneTigerFan,

Are both universities Tier 1, yes. Does that mean that LSU is just as good as Tulane is academically, of course not. If I were to say that, then I'd be admitting Tulane is just as good as Harvard ( because they’re both Tier 1).

That being said, what is your definition of Tier 1? Where would you begin Tier 2, at #50, #100?

I did a lot of partying at The Boot, TJ’s, and Madigan’s. So, I don't mind Tulane that much.

i'm not arguing that LSU isn't tier one or doesn't deserve to be. i'm also not arguing that LSU isn't a good school. my mom and the majority of my extended family all went to LSU or are currently attending. all i was trying to do was point out that there isn't a huge difference between LSU and ULL in those rankings despite how it appears on the surface. and again, that isn't necessarily meant to downgrade LSU. ULL is a really solid school as well.

That is who should be getting blamed for all of this shite between the two schools. fricking RAY AUTHEMANT! He was a senile old bastard who was to stupid to fix anything at the freaking school. He is the reason the sports programs are so far behind the curve! He wanted the school to be known as a research institution. I don't know if its still like this, but when I went there the baseball team had to raise all of its own money. No school money at all, it was the same with the softball teams also.... He dispised LSU and any other university in the state...

This article cracked me up.

quote:

UL lead the state in professional and certification exams in many fields including engineering, nursing, and education
.

The nursing one I buy, since LSU has no school of nursing, but engineering & education? I call BS on that one.

quote:

UL Lafayette (“LOUISIANA”), similar to UC Berkeley (“CALIFORNIA”), UT Knoxville (“TENNESSEE”), UA Fayetteville (“ARKANSAS”), UNC Chapel Hill ("NORTH CAROLINA"), and UT Austin (“TEXAS”), among others,

Yeah, I always think of Ulala in the same sense as Cal-Berkley, UNC, and UT.

quote:

Since then, however, the university has become popularly known as Louisiana, at least locally. Most of the local media cooperate and promote the name. Additionally, many national academic and athletic publications recognize the university as UL. Students are proud that they attend the University of Louisiana.

Not to me...never the L, nor UL, or even Ulala, still good ol' USL to me.

Once again, I demand that LSU no longer be referred to by that name. The new correct name of the university is "Kings of the Universe". Please send that memo to ESPN.

Locally = within the confines of the USL/UL campus.
