The conversation doesnt really pertain to athletics strictly. The discussion is why do ULL people push so hard to be recognized as UL, and what gives it that right over others in the state. From an academic standpoint it offers more degrees then anywhere else in the state, has the toughest admission standards (outside of LSU of course) and has twice as many students as the other state schools and has students from all over the world.

Someone will come in and tell you that ULM beat Alabama in football so they deserve it.

Thanks for the link to the UL website! Be sure to e-mail it to your friends as well!

(BTW, how does Southern get away with calling themselves Southern University? Are they the only university in the South? They're not even in the SEC. You guys should go and shut that shite down.)

I went to McNeese and I know we had students from India. I nominate McNeese State for THE University of Louisiana.

Just kidding, thanks for the info on the academics. I just know that when LSU played ULL in baseball for the first time after the name change and the idiots from Acadiana showed up with "Beat State" signs, I threw up in my mouth a little bit.

meh, that tier 1 ranking isn't nearly as impressive as it looks

Tulane = Tier 1 & LSU = Tier 1

Good to hear we're in the same company!

You failed to mention last year

football
UL - 45
ULM - 35
basketball
UL - 86
ULM - 58

Just funny how LSU fans think athletics determine everything, maybe because most LSU fans didn't even go to college.

Well what had happened was...

Overall though ULL is better athletically.

More NCAA men's basketbal tourney appearences then the other state schools.

More NCAA baseball regional appearences then the other state schools. Including two super regionals and a world series 3rd place finish. Also finished 2005 and 2007 ranked in the top 25

More Women's softball world series appearences then any other school including LSU.

Play in the Sunbelt, along with ULM, which is D1 all sports, as opposed to the Southland which is 1AA

You're right. Most worked out in the oil field right out of high school, climbed their way up the company ladder, made millions, and now donate those millions to LSU Education & Athletics, man that no college "thing" definitely hurt those LSU fans and LSU.

Great point. So please tell me, since ULL is so far and above the rest of the state, and they didn't lose in football or basketball to ULM (they ducked McNeese), when is the last time LSU lost in football or basketball to one of these schools? Tulane beat us in basketball two years ago and we fired the coach for it. Before then I think it had been about 10 years since we lost to an in state school. And Tulane is the only in state school to ever beat LSU in a regional or super regional, and they only did that once.

The Tier 1 fans graduated from LSU.

The Tier 2 fans just did their post-graduate work in the LSU system.

The Tier 3 fans have a relative that "went to LSU".

The Tier 4 fans are the people that are assumed fans because they live in Louisiana.

There is your problem. Your football program is on a Div-1AA level, but you found the worst conference in 1A to take you in. It must have really hurt when McNeese DOMINATED that game 2 years ago.

Nobody is arguing that LSU is the best in the state academically and athletically. There is no argument and anyone who tries is retarded. The comparison is between ULL and other state schools and why should the be entitled to the UL name.

They actually believe that LSU and Tulane are on the same level academically.

I like to see a person who is comfortable at laughing at himself, given that it was your words about the tier 1 status and not mine.

LSU fans make more of the name UL than UL does.

But not athletically.
