Well I'm not going to be that mean because a degree from there is a good accomplishment, but I just love to bust balls about the name because it REALLY ticks off a select few. That's why La-Lafayette is my favorite team.

on both sides! A lot of LSU fans act like 3 year olds when this issue comes up. Who gives a shite if ULL is called UL??? It's not a big deal....but some of the LSU fans are just so insecure about the whole issue. It's fun to get them all riled up too.

I graduated from ULL and enjoyed my time there. It's a great college town with a strong tradition and has excellent fields of study. The people and fans are also very passionate and supportive of the school and its teams. My biggest pet peeve though is the name thing and how a lot of fans try to blame lsu for it.
ULL is a great place and our fans should be proud of what it is instead about worrying what it isn't. ( I do wish the school was UL, but I don't lose sleep over it)

I admit it used to get me riled up but it was because of a different reason. This may just be , but the really diehard ULL people love to call LSU "State" as in it's a state school where as "University of Louisiana" sounds more prestigious.
Then I realized that it was just their way of feeling superior in a way so it doesn't bother me much at all.
I don't like the "Louisiana" designation on all of their team jerseys though. That maybe taking it a step too far IMO. I don't want people to confuse the two universities however unlikely that may be.

UL-Lafayette
UL-Monroe
its hard to argue that you are the 'main UL' when you are in the same conference as the other one

I earned two degrees, one is from USL and the post graduate is from ULL. The name is not that important to me. I always say I graduated from USL anyway. I enjoyed my time there, as well. Good people, good times, great looking girls, and some pretty great teachers there as well.
My wife also earned 2 degrees, both from USL. She loves the school and was happy when they beat LSU. I was not so happy. But then again, I was the one that sat in the rain and watched that debacle.
I was born an LSU fan and have always followed LSU sports. I wore png when I attended school in Lafayette and got a little grief for it. Some USL folk just plain hate LSU and some LSU folk just hate ULL. I for one love both schools. My son (11) has been raised LSU all the way and is making plans to attend LSU.
I never have understood the animosity as the schools don't compete in the same league in athletics, or in the same arena of academia either.
My advice to Cajun and Tiger fans alike is don't waste your hate on each other, save it for the enemy.
Maybe one day, if I am fortunate enough I can earn that third degree from LSU!

I attended both schools. Both schools have horrible fans as well as great ones. But, the facts are that ULL school wise, is just about as good as LSU. There are several degrees at ULL that are better than at LSU. It is just the way it is. The same goes for LSU, which has the Med school, law school etc... It's the flagship school and should have those types of degrees available. Who gives a shite what they want to be called. University of Louisiana, University of Louisiana at Lafayette who cares.
We all know they will never be LSU in football, thats just the way its going to be and it should.
Let them have it if they want it, I mean is it that bad to let someone else in the state get a little recognition.

I pretty much agree with everything HebertFest and tigerfan said.
Give it a rest people.

HebertFest08, could you post a link to U.S. News and World Report's rankings of selected college degrees? I would like to know exactly which degrees are better at ULL, thank you.
I'm sure it's in here ( LINK / ) somewhere.
Overall:
LSU = Rank 130 (Tier 1)
LINK
ULL = UNRANKED (Tier 4)
LINK
LSU>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ULL

Computer Engineering and Nursing are two that are widely known to be better. Plus its the only school in the state where you get a Phd in French. ( I know, I know).
Obviously, LSU is a better academic institution. It's statistically proven. I'm just answering your question.

meh, that tier 1 ranking isn't nearly as impressive as it looks. LSU actually got worse in every single US News metric, the only thing that changed is what defines the first tier. it was expanded and LSU barely made the cut. there is also no 2nd tier, which means LSU is one single point away from tier 3. before i get flamed over all of this, i do believe that LSU is underrated and a very solid academic university. but the difference in ranking between LSU and ULL isn't nearly as great as it looks on the surface

LSU fans think everything is about sports, just because LSU is better than everyone at sports, it must mean they are the better school at everything.

But the problem is that the guys in Lafayette are trying to make themselves so much better than the rest of the state. I'm not qualified to tell you which school's academics are better, but I can read a newspaper and see that ULL (I don't mind saying it with the 2nd L) athletics is not any better than ULM, McNeese (where's that McNeese/ULL scoreboard photo when I need it), Northwestern, Southeastern, or Tulane.
Posted on 4/22/09 at 11:46 am to Choupique19
If you think we aren't better academically than McNeese, Northwestern, and Southeastern then you're dumber than I thought.

Note: If you have to TELL everybody who you really are, you probably really aren't.
