LSU reaches 40

LSU baseball has won at least 40 games for the 27th time in the past 32 seasons!

As we all know, PM earned his 400th victory over the weekend and is 401-157-3 in nine seasons.

Les Miles has lost control.

Paul has his flaws as far as micromanaging too much at times, but for a sport that has had so much parity over the years, he's done a damn good job.

A good example is Cohen at State. He walked into a mess and took State to the national championship, but he's been pretty inconsistent. Bianco is a similar case at Ole Miss.

Well-done, Paul

agreed! He's been a very consistent coach while leading a world-class, very constant program.

Skip created, Mainieri has sustained.

Now, WIN another mother fricking championship!!!

From the heights of 2009 to the low of the Sprowl, Stewart, Bogany era. Quite a ride.

Yes Paul needs to win another NC. Not saying he should be fired this year or next if he doesn't...just saying. He is Les Miles twin in some respects, stupid to let him go, but bring on some glory.

Just imagine how many more he would have won if he had just bunted more.

The dude is one of the best coaches in all of college baseball right now. This will be his third year to win 50+ games which is outstanding. As long as we make it to Omaha every 3 yrs or so, he isn't going anywhere

Maybe we'd have a CWS win since 2009?

Or beaten a Stony Brook team that was out of pitchers after game 1?

sheesh, I don't think anyone is trying to anoint Maineri has a top 3 coach, but at the same time a CWS appearance and super regional appearance doesn't exactly constitute "hasn't done shite".

LSU was a key error from possibly its best shortstop in school history away from beating the national champ in Omaha, but shite happens sometimes. The bunt scenario in that game was a frick up, yes, but everyone quickly ignores the critical error Bregman made in that game.

I will agree he needs to make some noise this postseason, but I strongly disagree that "he hasn't done shite" since 2009. Great baseball programs like State, Texas, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Florida State, and even Florida would kill for the consistency Maineri has given LSU.

given the money and resources at his disposal, he has underachieved, pretty significantly. his tenure is now known more for stony brook and houston than a distant national championship. and those were 2 of his best seasons. otherwise, it's been pretty dismal.

The only currently active coach that even comes close to PM/LSU over the last decade is Corbin at
Vandy.

Paul Mainieri is easily the #1 or 2 best coach in the SEC. Also probably a top 10-15 nationally.

This isn't the 90s. LSU isn't the only school to invest in baseball anymore. Yes it's all about the post-season but don't act like every season that doesn't end in a national title is a total waste. We've been very consistent the past few years when other power programs have struggled with breaking .500.

no, he hasn't. we're the winningest program in college baseball the last three seasons makes for "significantly underachieving" to be pretty damn hyperbolic.

Well that's because a lot our fan base is dumb as frick, pessimistic, and lack perspective.

He's only been around for 9 seasons. I'd say his 2 best seasons were 2008 and 2009, with 2013 being a pretty damn good season (I believe the second highest win total in LSU's history). a lot can still happen this season too. Does the first season even count with the huge mess Laval left LSU in?

3 CWS appearances
National title
an SEC title
4 SECT titles
The winningest program the last three seasons

Yeah, so dismal. K. Makes perfect sense. There's not a single program that's been more consistent than LSU other than Carolina when it had Tanner, who's now gone.

it's blatantly obvious LSU has been the most consistent program other than the Ray Tanner era, but LSU has now passed Carolina as the most consistent program. Not even Sullivan at Florida has sustained Maineri's consistency. Bianco is barely above .500 after last season's CWS run. Cohen can't find consistency. Auggie is just drunk at Texas. Florida state would kill for our post-season results. UNC and UVA have even taken a step back with fantastic coaches.

I could go on and on, but the point is that very few can match Maineri's sustained success. It's not like I'm telling you anything new though
