My dad used to tell me about sitting in the rain during this game and this play specifically as his all time favorite he saw live. Strangely this is the first video of it I’ve ever seen (never thought to YouTube it I guess)

LINK

For those who were there and/or attended multiple games during the 94 season, was the eye of the Tiger always offset to the left like it is in the video? If so is there story behind it?

Also, been watching old videos a lot lately (early 2000’s in particular) and kinda wish they’d bring back the block LSU letters in the end zones for a game every once in a while. Doubtful they would but I first started attending games around 01 and there’s just something nostalgic about those ugly letters taking up the entire length from sideline to sideline.

Bringing back the block lettering has been debated on this board before, and it’s fun. I think the new font has taken on a legendary status of its own and I’m good keeping that, but the old lettering has its vintage charm.

I was at the game in 94 (age 11). I would always look forward to the Ms. St. game because I had a good feeling we’d win it—wins were hard to come by in those days. It was a fun night, rain and all. That punt return thrilled all 45 thousand of us in attendance.

Hawthorne. Henderson was the voice of the saints. I miss both Jims, but I like both new guys.

It’s okay to like both.

haha, that should've been a safety. Terrible tackling (or lack there of).

I remember seeing him at Washington Marion HS play Barbe.

He was a monster

I also remember Carencro playing at Barbe and they were at the Barbe 48 with :01 left before half and they sent out Wade Richey to attempt a 65 yarder. We were all laughing and he missed by about 1 yard.

I listened to this call on the radio. Was kind of tough to determine what actually happened.

"OH, HE FIELDED IT AND STEPPED IN THE END ZONE........OR DID HE?"

Miss State in the rain 1994, that was my first LSU game. I feel in love with LSU Football and TGBFTL as a H.S. Junior. Graduated HS in 96, enrolled at LSU for the fall, and joined TGBFTL.

Typical Hawthorne call.

"He stepped into the end zone! Or did he?!?"

Kennison was the most fearless punt returner ive ever seen. He's the only guy I recall that would field the punt already running in stride. I don't think muffing the punt ever crossed his mind.

Yes, I forgot why. but for the first few years it was always on the 45. Always bugged me.

I was there in the student section...

At first, we were all screaming, “No, no, no!” Then, it quickly turned to pandemonium.

The next week, Richard Condon reviewing that play in his typical voice said something that my friends and I quote to this day when we are trying something out for the first time:

Condon: “Kennison, got that ball, got knocked back into the end zone and thought, what the heck? I’m on scholarship, and ran it back a hundred.”

I was in FCA with Kennison, and one day I asked him why he had a knife pendant on his necklace. He said, “Because when I’m on the field, I’m gonna cut you up.”

Loved that guy. One of my favorite all-time Tigers.

Every old clip shared on here includes Hawthorne whining about LSU as they do something remarkable.
