re: Chapelle vs Mt. Carmel
Posted by AllsGroovn on 4/25/24 at 1:32 pm
All 3, Chapelle, Dominican, and Mt. Carmel are good schools, it all depends on which is the best fit for your daughter.
Mt. Carmel is the largest, and most competitive in all aspects. Intense school spirit. Almost "Sorority like" - with cheers and themes, costumes, etc. but the girls love it.

So what is the difference, tax wise, on a gifted vehicle vs. one that has a bill of sale for anything less than the value of the vehicle?

Gifting a car or selling it for cheap???
Posted by AllsGroovn on 3/14/24 at 8:59 am
A family member wants to give a car to my daughter (under 18). I have not done this before, is it better to process the title as a gift or sell/buy it for a minimum amount of money?
What would be best for taxes, etc.
Thanks in advance....

DJ on a Cruise Ship out of New Orleans. Sailed to Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica weekly for one summer in college.
Played music on the back deck during lunch/mid-day and the night club from 11pm - 3 or 4am.
Great summer - met some great people, had a blast. This was the late 90s, so not e...
re: Parenting question: approximately what age would should kids first watch these movies?
Posted by AllsGroovn on 1/25/24 at 12:23 pm
Maturity level is more of a factor than age.
The kid should be able to identify the difference between fantasy and reality. Important for your sanity, will the movies cause them to have nightmares and come running to your bed.
Start them off with Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Marvel movies, then m...
re: WSJ: "Insurers Rake In Profits as Customers Pay Soaring Premiums"

Increase cost of claims, employees, labor, etc. due to an increase in EVERYTHING. In order to have enough funds to cover expected losses, premiums have to increase. It sucks, but it's how it all works....
re: What musical instruments have you taken lessons for in your lifetime?

Played saxophone for the last 35 years. Wow, I should be way better at it after all that time.
Was "forced" to take band as a 5th grader and loved it, played in high school, played at LSU in various bands. Played in various groups around Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Gulf Coast, etc. Don't p...
re: Do I pass my 4Runner on to my kids?
Posted by AllsGroovn on 1/25/24 at 9:44 am
No matter how responsible the kids are, they won't take care of it like you would. The most financial sense would be to get them a used car that gets good mileage with relatively low maintenance costs (if such a thing exists today).
No matter how good of a driver they are, it will get wrecked or ...

Family moved to St. Tammany, she went to a public school for her sophomore year, she was able to skip/test out of many classes, and is graduating year early. She was an average to b...

Went to LHSAA Volleyball state championship games at Cajundome the last two seasons. Horribly managed venue. Closed concession stands before the Div. I teams even got to play at night. Parking, bad. Not enough employees. Huge arena, but it wants to host small events.

My Grandfather served in the Army in the European Theater.
Landed at Marseille, France in Dec. '44, defended the Rhine River, helped stop German offensive Operation Nordwind (Battle of the Bulge), took part in combat raids in Saarbruken, Forbach, and Stiring-Wendel. Crossed the Saar River to tak...
re: So what did Fla St. do wrong this season to not get in?
Posted by AllsGroovn on 12/4/23 at 9:24 am
Even if Bama lost the SEC CG, FSU still doesn't get in. It would have been UGA, Mich, Wash, Texas, with Bama and FSU on the outside.
FSU is NOT one of the top 4 teams right now. Don't care what happened in Aug or Sept., Top 4 teams at end of the season, and FSU is NOT one of them.
Did you watc...

re: New car totaled - value for insurance.
Posted by AllsGroovn on 9/21/23 at 12:38 pm
Quite a few years back, I worked as a claims adjuster for a major insurance company, specifically in totaled vehicle valuations. Ask for a Market Survey. The "Blue Book Value" isn't accurate on a month old car. Ask their adjuster or do it yourself, find 3 or 4 like kind and quality vehicles. Average...
