re: This season is exactly why 6-1-1 needs to die

Wasn't Alleva one of the guys opposing the 6-1-1 schedule for this very reason?
Look, I get that we have to beat the best to be the best. But the schedule blatantly caters to certain schools. Is Bama/Tenn really a rivalry? I wonder if Tenn was competitive would Bama be as adamant about keeping their rivalry intact?
Not to be a homer, but geographically, the division should look like this:
WEST:
A&M, Arky, Mizzou, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss State, Bama
EAST: UF, UGA, USCe, Tenn, Auburn, Vandy, UK

The most egregious offense of the 6-1-1 isn't looking at LSU and Alabama, but rather the absolute joke that is the SEC East sending Georgia to Atlanta for two straight years while South Carolina is left at home.
This year, Florida gets the bad break, but your point is well-taken.

I don't think the OP said he was scared to play the best - however, there must be some fairness in the scheduling.
Wanting fairness does not equate to being "scared"

Scared of Bama?

Not quite...I'd go w this (although I'd hate it):
West should be:
TX A&M, Mizzou, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St, Arky, Vandy
East:
UF, UGA, USCe, TN, Auburn, UK, Bama
West should be:
TX A&M, Mizzou, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss St, Arky, Vandy
East:
UF, UGA, USCe, TN, Auburn, UK, Bama

Go troll another thread. This thread is about fixing a serious issue. Give LSU the 8 best SEC teams. Just at least give Bama 8 of the best 12
West should be called a non geographic name and include:
LSU
Bama
AU
UT
UF
OM
MSU
Division 2:
Vandy
Arky
Mizzou
TAMU
UGA
SC
UK
Look how LSU isn't "scared" in this setup. Now you can rotate two teams from Division 2 and you can pair them more equitably.

Yeah, Florida had to play LSU and Texas A&M.
South Carolina had a 3 week stretch vs UGA, at LSU, and at Florida.
South Carolina beat UGA, AGAIN, and yet the pansies from Athens get the trip to Atlanta because the SEC office conviently moved them off of Bama's schedule this year.

One possible solution is the NFL model where the schedule is determined by a team's previous year's record. I personally don't care that much about "rivalry" games. Schedule integrity is much more important.

The SEC will always be about satisfying the demands of four schools: Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn and Georgia.

I agree. I also would be open to having an upper and lower division and relegate the top and bottom 3 of each.

If Tenn threw $10M at Saban and he built a monster at Rocky Top, then I think the TSIO rivalry might be less important all the sudden.

SOUTH'S OLDEST RIVALRY: SACROSANCT!!!!!

Not at all. Why would we be?
It just makes sense geographically and will eliminate the cross-divisional matchups because all of the teams wanting to play each other every year for the sake of some archaic rivalry will all be on the same side of the conference therefore playing every year.
Like I said, problems solved.

We get UF at home, and UGA is losing most of their top players. We'll be fine.
Posted on 11/12/12 at 9:38 am to AlexLSU
The overall solution is simple:
The West teams should decide the West champion.
The East should decide the East.
Simply do not count East vs West results in determining division champions.

Stop being a pussy
I love playing Florida every year. And its not like we will always will be playing be playing the 2 best teams in the East. Florida will have their down years and we will get our share of Kentuckys and Vandys
