I hate that analysis , family of four?? Who takes their family to a college football game? Never see one at really any game except maybe a baseball game on a nice Sunday. Stop it. I was surprised the only rain gear folks had was a cheap poncho?

Click on the link below. There are ALWAYS tickets for sale on there and most are at face value. Enough with the whining.

" good portion of the crowd that left were in the season ticket area. The weather was expected for several days in advance. If you are not going to stay let someone else have the tickets"

fail, 50% were season ticket holders, 80% were students. Only the bottom 2 sections of the student section was left.

Rain, TV, & what looked like a blow out caused the early departure. That and the urge to be first in line for the umbrella shopping free for all at the gates.

BTW it's still stealing. I got to hold onto to mine cause we were invited to a suit. But friends intended to bring theirs back to car but got caught waiting on out of town family. They said they're were stacks of umbrellas left at the gate. Takes a real winners to leave early to get a free umbrella.
We didn't think they would still be there but I wouldn't have taken one. I mean they were probably soaked already.

I think the only legit excuse I've read involves getting kids home and out of the rain.

Otherwise...here is the list...

Studying - not too many students study on Saturday night, and if it's that important, don't go at all.

Rain - you live in Louisiana, deal with it.

Traffic - I feel sorry for you if traffic dictates what time you leave Tiger Stadium.

Long drive home - then sell your tickets or just go to tailgate.

Wish to go back to the parking lot to drink - this is probably indicative of a deeper problem.

ESPN has ruined the experience - once again, I feel bad for you if ESPN ruins your experience. Must not be a fun guy to be around.

People are giving tickets away and it's still low attendance. The problem is people put more into tailgating and pregame partying than they do the game. By 8-9 pm, they're finished.

Agreed.

There are several factors in play as to why crowds thin out:
1) Weather
2) Traffic (TS's capacity increased 50% from mid 70's and not to mention the tailgating explosion, but the traffic infrastructure is essentially unchanged)
3) Early 21-0 lead over team that once was a big game.
4) More home games than 25+ years ago (home games aren't as special now)
5) All the games are on TV. It used to be the case that you had to be in TS to see the Tigers play.
6) Costs - a factor but I don't think this is the main factor last night.
7) Uneducated fans - many of our fans seem to know little about or appreciate what makes TS great. Nor do they know our cheers or how/when to make noise. I would add that day games have exacerbated this. Whereas LSU used to be somewhat unique is playing our games at night while everyone else played in the afternoon, now this is reversed (to an extent).

For the very first time, if not already being done, the Admin needs to begin aggressively addressing this.

Well Obama is here to save the day. Redistribution of wealth. That should fix it.

People these days are just flat out lazy. Its not about the prices--the stadium is full early. People just can't bother to put themselves out anymore. Its too much trouble and their "reality" is seen through a video screen. Comfort over a real experience.
I say to each his own, its your ticket. Its just a sad commentary on what we've become.

you know this is bullshite right?

people couldn't GIVE tickets away last night. I saw tons of tickets on the freaking ground where people had just left them about 30 minutes before gametime while walking around.

the blue collar worker isn't priced out of tiger stadium, that is absurd

Poor. High ticket prices are a sign that we are a legit program. Make some more money and buy some tickets.

We were a legit program in 2003 -2008 and the crowd was loud and drunk and awesome. Now the crowd sucks so bad.

this was the opposite back in the day. We would get stronger throughout the day hence the night game. What happened?

lots of people don't value the actual game experience

they are there to party and be entertained

les miles was trying to run the clock out in the 3rd quarter until it seemed like cam made mett throw it

no one thinks running plays into 10 man fronts are entertaining.

no one I know anyways

that's just revisionist history though

the stadium was empty in the 90's

from 2001-present... people have always left early

The root cause of the crowd issue

I disagree with your opinion of cost.

The root cause is TV for two reasons.

1. The availability of broadcast, home comforts and quality of picture has people staying home to avoid the difficulty or at the tailgate for the partying and food.

2. (IMHO the worst thing) LONG TV timeouts/commercial breaks. It absolutely ruins the flow of the game and lengthens the time with NOTHING interesting happening on the field. For the casual fan it probably makes the game boring, hell I consider myself knowledgable about college football, and it makes the game boring for me at times.

I stayed from start to finish, so I want my participation trophy, but TV has effected the stadium experience.

Sitting in Georgia and watching an empty stadium at halftime makes me sick. Maybe scrapping Saturday Night Games is worth a try. This is the 3rd game in a row on ESPN with an empty stadium, and this one was a sec game.
