That isn't the cause, the cause is because it has become easier to watch a game at home in a comfortable surrounding. The games are a social event and who really cares. If the game isn't competitive then why would you want to stay?
Look back over last few years, a close game, the fans stay it is plain and simple.

As I was hiking my soggy arse back down Dalrymple to my car, I passed wave after wave of students walking back towards the stadium freshly showered and in dry, pressed clothes. What time do we think they split to get cleaned up and headed out by the end of the game?

What a load of shot post. I strolled right up and got four tickets TOGETHER for a grand total of $0.
Such a burden. I also left with 10 minutes left in the fourth because I had two 8 year olds with me and a 1.5 hour commute. frick these threads.

For hell's sake...it was raining buckets!!!!!

Who wants to stay in that slop to watch anything?

I used to leave the game early to avoid traffic .

New Alabama AD Bill Battle says he's concerned about student attendance at football games
Although I didn't know that. I still think a few empty seats in the student section is hardly comparable to what we saw last night at Tiger stadium. Actually it's a problem at every game that isn't close .

I know 3-4 people in the last 2 years who have up their tickets because they didnt feel like spending that money. And these guys aren't poor or can't afford it, they simply said the price wasnt justified.

parents from 2001-2007 must have been better parents because they yelled and stayed the whole game.

a lot of people are there to be entertained

if it's not entertaining, they are going to leave

defense wins championships, offense keeps fans in the seats

fans have been leaving early for decades

you can't stop people from leaving

LSU just doesn't have 93,000 super fans

People who bitch about this must be new fans

In the 80's people left early
In the 90's people left early when being blown out
In the 00's people left early

THIS IS NOTHING NEW

Season ticket holder here and have been since the 90s. LSU is nickel and dime-ing away their fan base. The parking situation has gotten out of hand. Then when you go to the games and stay until the end, like we do, there is no reward. I got an email from the Athletic Dept last week thanking me for going to Kent St. How about scanning my ticket on the way out to show that I stayed and giving me extra TAF points so I don't have to sit in the crappy upper section in Cowboys Stadium. I donate to TAF but my children have to eat and I need to pay my bills so LSU can't have all my money. That being said Forever LSU!

So much has changed since the '03 championship. A sizable portion of the crowd just wants a win and don't care about watching the football game. They like all the pageantry around it but once the game is assured, they leave. In many cases, such as rent a wins, they aren't even showing up.

Actual attendance at many LSU games is closer to 70k than 90k and according to the scanners, LSU has only surpassed 90k one time. TV, media coverage make it easy to support your program and stay home, or leave early.

I'll bet if LSU isn't undefeated that the Florida and A&M games will not approach 90k actual attendance.

I said this already

but don't you people realize LSU has had the two best average attendance in LSU history the past two years.

if fans are so bad now of days why is the attendance so high?

Probably paid. I doubt actual.

if you went to an LSU game where LSU is up 50+ or maybe this crazy 70-7 games would you stay the entire time.

Also the LSU vs Bama 9-6 was one of the most entertaining game ever and if at Tiger Stadium no-one would leave early.

I would rephrase your statement

defense wins championships, close games with good offense keeps fans in the seats.

That's paid, not actual. When they announce "tonight's attendance 93,225" and you can look around and see big gaps in the upper decks, you know the score. This year they haven't even bothered to announce the attendance.

Agreed

people will always want to beat traffic

shite, I left last night with 3 min left of the clock when les was running the RB into a 10 man defensive front... no point in staying IMO

Yeah, I doubt actual attendance last night was over 70k. It was probably 35-40k at halftime.
