The Logic of the Pooch Kick and Special Teams

We simply conceded giving TT the ball on the 35 to 40 yard line the entire game. Our kicker is capable of kicking the ball out of the back of the End Zone. I think this is a terrible strategy! We give the opponent a 65 yard field every time they get the ball, and on the other hand we can barely get the ball to the 20.
This is almost as stupid as having 1 receiver in the formation and running up the middle against 10 men in the box. I'm fed up with this coaching staff.
We have more talent than any team in college football, and we will lose 3 games every year! Book it!

No he isn't. At least not consistently enough to make it a repeatable tactic.

no he isn't
he tried a couple of times and failed so they went back to the pooch
they were trying to keep it away from the little fast midget TT had back there

Only reason I could think of is so that TT would now have the chance to get a big return and have a big momentum swing..

I agree! I almost pulled my hair out during that game! With a month 2 prepare and such great athletes there is no reason to concede 20 yards of field position to a great offense. Also, why not just kick the ball out of bound if you wanna give it to them at the 35?

Well then we need to recruit somebody that can. It is to big of an advantage for the opponent!

Great Point SH Balke 49, just kick it out of bounds.

actually that is one of the dumbest points I've read on tRant in awhile

In the 1st quarter we did it 3 times. They started on the 30,34 and 32. If we kicked it through the end zone they would have it on the 25. So we gave them all of 5,7 and 9 yards.

If we are so worried about a return that we are already giving up 10 yards in order to pooch kick it, why not just give them a couple more and totally eliminate any chance of them having any return?

I would place good money on Gamble kicking it out the endzone in a dome 10/10 if told to do so without regards to placement.

Even is he cant kick it out of the endzone, we faired better the few times we kicked it deep.
But, I do agree with others here, we didn't want the ball in 11's hands. That boy was dangerous.
ETA: he's got two kickoff returns for TD this year.

The kid coming in from Lafayette has a monster leg. Go watch his Hudl tapes. He will put it out next year every kickoff. Problem solved

What's more likely..... You really not knowing what our kicker can consistently do or we just want to spot the other team 15 plus yards for the hell of it?
Geez, the complete stupidity of so many of our fans continues to amaze me. Lmao

Nobody on LSU's staff has close to the leg that Gamble does. He has one of the strongest legs in the country. People need to understand that the coaches DO NOT WANT him to just kick it out the back of the end zone. Its a weird thing to believe I know but true.

He'd kick as many out of bounds as he kicked out of the endzone.

Gamble has one of the strongest legs to come out of HS in a while. LSU doesn't need a monster leg they need someone that can accurately kick the ball at an angle with air under it to the 2 yard line without going OB. That is what the coaches are asking for.
