The problem is pretty apparent on special teams. Despite having without question top 10 talent in the nation from 1 to 85, we have not been able to get even average coverage on kickoffs and punts. That is utterly inexcusable. We were exceptional for years under Miles in special teams, now we are awful. It HAS to be fixed.

Jesus some of you are thick.. He kicks them out of bounds because the coaches are asking him to kick it to the corner. They are NOT asking him to kick it straight out the back of the end zone.

No I wouldn't

Kid can kick the ever living shite out of the ball. What he cannot do is kick it at and angle with air under it to the 2.

He has the strongest leg I have ever seen at LSU.

I think what he's saying is that if our philosophy is to keep it out of the play-maker's hands and prevent a big return by pooching it to the 30 with a few yards on the return. We should just kick it out of bounds anyway.

Which if that's the case, just let him kick it as far as he can, if it goes out of bounds, it goes out of bounds. No harm no foul.

It seemed like he tried to kick it out of the endzone a couple of times last night, but couldn't, so we went back to the pooch kick...

When he was asked to kick the ball without angle he kicks it past the FG every time. at the 55 second mark you can see he kicks it onto the track surface.

Cameron won Texas Showcase KO competition in Dec, has D1 leg, ball explodes off his foot, FG have improved, still not reached potential as FG kicker (has very high ceiling), has talent to move up in rankings, someone to watch, super fast leg, gets great height on his FG, D1 prospect, led 2014 class on KO's at the 2013 National Scholarship Camp, great work ethic

What happened to Special Teams being an honor at LSU and only the best athletes get in on kickoffs? Is that still a thing?

Coach seems to think we're good enough to try and stop returners before the 25.

Dropping it 5 yards into the endzone seems like a better route than putting in the two?

It is also sad with all of the athletes we have that we can't cover kicks. Thank you Peveto!

Is it possible that Gamble has been injured and the coaches know what they are doing?

That's great and all, but he ain't kicking it out of the endzone 10/10 times. If he could, we would've done that last night.

Last night wasn't the type of kicks that Les typically wants, so that we can try to stop them before they get to the 25. They were kicks to keep it away from Tech's great returner. Why purposefully give up field position if you can kick it out of the endzone 100% of the time?

If you go back to look at what was even said by our kickers last season. The coaches dont want them kicking it hard. In an article even talking about how LSU now has the legs to kick it out the end zone..

LINK

quote:

There are times, though, when Miles and Peveto call for a popup kickoff to force the opponent to field the ball - almost daring them to challenge the Tigers' speedy special teams to try and get to the 25-yard-line.

"I also think that it's one of the things that we really enjoy doing," Miles said. "We like covering kicks and we like making tackles. So we're giving thought to, 'Well, we'll kick it out some and when we don't want to kick it out, we'll drop it on the 5-yard line with great hang time and we'll see if we can go down there and pin them inside the 20."

"Personally, I just like to kick the heck out of it, but whatever Coach needs us to do, that's what I'll do," said Domingue, who had a career-long 47-yard field goal as a prep senior. Gamble has the strongest leg of all the kickers.

"Twice a week we work on sky kicks to try and get air underneath it so our teammates can get to the ball carrier. You have to get under the ball more and take a little leg off of it and scoop it up. It's a little bit of a change in the approach you get used to as a kicker."

This is what you should be bolding. For most of the game we were not trying to do this. Miles clearly doesn't think that gamble can kick it out of the endzone consistently, so we did those pooch kicks to the 25-30 yard line.

And you know that those pooch kicks were supposed to land on the 30-35 and not say the 15-20?

Why is LSU even using a kicker that has FG accuracy issues for his whole life but one of the top KO legs to pooch kick? When you have much better kickers than can do that?

except they were obviously trying to keep it away from their returner

and the few times they didn't pooch, which I'm going to assume meant they were trying to kick it out of the endzone, Gamble failed, so they went back to the pooch kicks
