I agree. I equate it with the hate for Roger Goodell. Both have a job that calls for hard decisions that will be criticized. Many are not able to see the big picture.

I don't necessarily like Alleva, but the fact that everyone knows but no one has talked about is that the TAF BOD controls who is and isn't fired. Alleva can make a suggestion but the decision ultimately lies with the TAF

You sir are correct. And those who say "he better have had his man lined up" are idiots. There is almost no way to lock in a new coach before you handle the old coach. Im fine with Jimbo but if it doesn't work out we will find a good young coach.

It's the same people that decided they didn't like Miles because of the headset that someone else gave him to wear for the Az St game.

Being an AD is considered by some a thankless job.

After reading the ignorant idiots bashing Alleva in this thread for things that aren't even his responsibility, it is a thankless job at LSU

Again. Rating Alleva is something that will be handled in due time.

But right now, Alleva is not drawing up the "gameplan" and calls on first and goal.

traffic situations

You're going to blame Alleva for a road system developed, what, 80-something years ago?

There's only so many roads for 100k+ people to drive down, and I'm quite sure that BRPD has something to say about the traffic flow, as well...

But he's certainly not without fault, as I feel you implied.

What's the reason to fault him?

Was he supposed to take a hardline in negotiations with a popular coach coming off the 2011 season and risk losing him?

If he had dug his heels in, and Miles had left, then the media and the fans would have, almost literally, lynched him.

We were coming off the 2012 season, a season in which we lost three games.

Also, I don't know enough about the negotiations to accurately critique them. I can only surmise that it would have been possible for Alleva to keep Les without giving him a raise, a buyout increase, and an extension -- all after a disappointing 2012 season.

Eta: I think Alleva is doing a good job as AD, and I don't hold that 2012 contract negotiation against him. My feelings are that it likely could have been handled better, but again, I have no evidence to support that hypothesis.

typical TD poster logic...

2 weeks ago - "Alleva is a pussy and doesn't have the balls to fire Les Miles. He'll probably give him an extension after this season. Alleva should be fired"

This week - "Alleva has handled this poorly. He shouldn't have done this to Les Miles. Alleva should be fired"

good post man. it seems that one guy starts a rumor and it gets embraced and then it becomes a fact. and there's no changing their minds.

from what I've seen, we have a good AD.

if you let Les walk then, you were behind the eight ball on the pool of candidates for that year, probably not the best move you could make.

Great post. I heard recently that jindal might have also put pressure on alleva to extend miles? Either way alleva is getting way too much hate.

Now if he makes a bad hire the rant can fire away. Until then At least wait to see who he brings in.

Well, Rummel, what did he do during the lynching of innocent Lacrosse players at Duke? Did he withhold judgment or did he go along with kicking them out of school and suspending the team? That behavior tells me everything I need to know about Joseph Alleva.

Granted that Miles may not be such a great coach, but I find it hard to believe he would have handled the Lacrosse matter in the same way. Miles should not have gotten his last extension for sure. Was Alleva not involved in that?

And do you know anything about what kind of pressure he was facing from the school? Duke is private, so I'm sure there are other factors in play there in regards to the power struggle.

And that you would make sweeping judgments about a man based on a situation where you are privy to NONE of the behind-the-scenes facts, then that tells me everything I need to know about White Tiger.
