I agree. I think he has done a pretty good job overall. If I was him, and his decision is to let miles go, I would do it Monday. Then I would name BDP as interim coach for the bowl game just to have some fun and watch the rabid fans heads implode.

Yeah I always thought that whole fiasco put a giant target on his back and he'd be in huge trouble if things started trending down.
Which is why the "do right be Les" crowd is so laughable. Les made a very business savvy move when he went after his extension and now LSU is making moves of its own to protect its interests.

I may cry. We DO have intelligent fans. Hope is found today.

I've seen MANY on here say that Alleva is responsible for the large buyout.
In 2012, Miles was given a raise and an extension. Also, Miles' buyout would have only been 11.25 M this year.

You think that's a unilateral decision?

Alleva is playing Chess and I don't know if I can even say our fans are playing checkers.
If Alleva were playing chess he'd have encouraged Miles to go to Arkansas. If he were playing checkers he'd have ignored the Miles to Arkansas nonsense. He was playing fricking peek-a-boo... and he was shite at that too.
Now he's figured out that he doesn't get another year if Miles does.

Of course not. But he's certainly not without fault, as I feel you implied.

All I know is neither us posters, the BoD, TAF, Alleva, Santa Claus, etc. are responsible for the onfield performance of the last few weeks and in the SEC since 1/9/12.
If that was different then there would be no discussion about Alleva or anything else.
The Captain has been given a ship which despite hittibg rocks on every voyage, limps into port. This is where it all lies.

I'm not Alleva's biggest fan.
However, I must admit regarding the herculean job of ramrodding the Tiger Stadium expansion--he got it built, got it done well, and got it done on time.
That is a superhuman accomplishment.
If he reels in Jimbo Fisher, I'm prepared to to him as the GOAT LSU AD.

Rummie, I agree w/ you. I think some folks get worked up by the "national media," who don't know the situation and are basically blathering their off-the-top of their heads thoughts, as if their words are spun gold.
If things work out as I think they will, LSU fans will be happy. As for Coach Miles, I really hope LSU can do something at some point to honor him, b/c I think he's earned it. But I don't feel sorry for the man, given that he's going to get a nice addition to his bank acct.

What's the reason to fault him?
Was he supposed to take a hardline in negotiations with a popular coach coming off the 2011 season and risk losing him?
If he had dug his heels in, and Miles had left, then the media and the fans would have, almost literally, lynched him.

The Athletic Director makes a recommendation to the BOS. The BOS will act/vote on what is presented to them. I find it interesting the Alleva makes this crazy contract extension/raise/buyout for Miles and two years later runs out the most important member of Les staff-Chavis.
That said -the handling of this crisis has been a complete PR disaster. Im not sure who leaked what but Alleva needed to step up to the plate and put all the rumors to rest or at least show support for the headcoach of LSU for now. He has been basically AWOL while the university burns.
This has been the most pathetic and inept display of leadership the athletic dept has ever seen. Joe Dean could have done a better job.

all of the right things are being done behind the scenes, I could give a rats arse about how a few national analysts view this from the outside.

I seem to remember skip getting alot of hate for being the one to introduce the news about fees and ticket prices were going up, like he was solely responsible.

The villification of Alleva is largely an attempt to deflect attention from Miles' recent failings as a coach.
Posted on 11/25/15 at 9:37 am to RummelTiger
So he added a couple mil to the buyout coming off a championship game appearance, thats not that crazy.
Les using that as leverage right as alleva came on board probably wasnt the best idea.
And i love how now the chavis thing is blamed on alleva.
Chavis was asking for a contract extension longer than the head coach, that would have been unprecedented. Not to mention not worth it, or we would have to pay even more money than we already do.
Les deserves his own blame for not hiring a better replacement for steele. We were almost all in agreement during the hiring process that, the DC hire was going to seal Les's fate if he didnt hit it out of the ballpark
