I think this clearly starts and ends with Tebow. But realistically, in every game someone has to lose. When you have 3 powerhouses in the same conference there can only be one winner, this year was not our year to beat them both, next year I will bet on LSU to win both.

If Florida wins another title this year, they are prodcuing dominance that hasn't been seen in college football in quite some time.

I still think USC was better in 03, 04 and 05 then UF was in 06, 08 & 09, but they lack the team hardware to prove it.

You can have the most talented team in the country for 4 years and a great coaching staff....chances are, you still won't win 4 titles. College Football just isn't built that way.

If he can pull it off this year as well, I think he becomes a truly elite coach in the company of Carroll

If you classify carroll as elite, you almost HAVE to classify MIles as elite...on results alone

If you think Carroll is significnatly a better recruiter, than you must think Miles does more with less talent then

i know, but that is basically what he was implying.

I guess he has an eye for elite QBs, bc Texas has been rolling the last few years.

yeah, 2 qb's over the last 11 years. before those 2 qb's he was stoops bitch. plus he was trying to get Ryan Perrilloux along with Miles. so i guess Miles has an eye for elite qb's too. i am not doing the whole if we had RP these last two years would have been different argument. but well, you know.

Now that wouldve been a helluva game.
2004 USC v. 2008 Florida wouldve been epic.

Not to be anti-Miles here, but let me ask you guys harping on about 10 win seasons a question. If Les Miles consistently won 9 games every year, are you still as happy with him?

Yeah, before VY, Texas fans had the same attitude about Mack as many LSU fans do about Miles.

Mack Brown
has only won with elite qb's.

Be that as it may, he has done better at Texas than Miles at LSU.

Miles is 49–13 at LSU and in the same time period, Mack is 54-7. Miles has won two confrence championships and one national championship while Mack has won one confrence championship and one national championship. Taking into account that Miles does that while playing in a tougher confrence, I'd say that Miles >/= Brown very easily.

I agree with the original post and would like to add that Miles is a hell of a stand up guy and I don't know if we could have gotten anyone with more integrity to represent LSU.

every year? no

almost every year, sure

you have to put your team in position to compete for a nat'l title occasionally. if he does that, wins 1 more title, and racks up mostly 9, with some 10 win seasons he'll be a legend at LSU

If we compete for every game just happen to lose some every once in a while, then yea. Sometimes the ball bounces one way and we win 11 games and then the next year we win 9. Just think last year during the florida game if our cb jumps a half second later and intercepts their first touchdown. Season could have been much different.

I think Miles has kept us being competitive in the league. That is all I think you can ask for.

it's awful hard to ignore some of their posts though. they are simply incredible and you wonder what thought process and what life experiences could have produced that?

If Miles can keep it up for 9 years, then I agree that you have to classify him as elite.

Uf under Meyer had a 5 loss season,

When?

look at OU under Stoops when he was some qb issues, Mack had trouble winning the big game, Tressel was on the hot seat a few weeks back, Carrol leads the most underproducing team in the country
d
All of those coaches (and Meyer) have performed consistently for many years without a 5-loss season (unless Stoops had one in 2005).

Miles is a top 20 coach with top 5-10 talent....every year.

If he has top 5-10 talent every year, he should finish in the top 5-10 every year.

You always need luck to win titles (no matter who you are)

National titles, maybe, but division and SEC titles are within reasonable reach if a coach builds a strong enough program. To lose the division by more than 2 games two years in a row is a pretty weak showing.

Urban Meyer has won the SEC East three out of the last four years and is going for the national title for the third time in that period. Is he just lucky? Pete Carroll, for all the lack of actually winning a national title since 2004, has at least been in the thick of the race until the end most of the time, and has not lost more than 2 games in a season since 2002. Saban has Alabama a cinch to go 12-0 in the regular season for the 2nd straight year.

If those coaches can do it, why can't Miles?

Can anyone tell me the last time anyone won the SEC, National Championship, or any other conference championship (for that matter) with primarily a fresh. or Soph. QB?

I think you will se it is quite obvious that no one can consistently win without Jr and Sr leadership at the QB postion..

Myers can do it because Ga and Tn are down....Anybody should be able to see that...In the end it is not all about how good you are, but more about how good your comp. is....

Miles didn't do it because he doesn't have the exp. at the qb postion....Yes, it is that easy.

Seriously dude?!? Last year we had a QB that wasnt ready. This year we lost to arguably the best two teams in the country, not by blow outs. This season is still lined up for a successful season.
