eventually, you'll be proven correct

the chances of him retiring as LSU's head coach after long and prosperous career filled with 9 & 10 win seasons is slim....as it is for every coach

so, bang on miles, eventually you'll be able to say, "see, i told you so"

Uf under Meyer had a 5 loss season, look at OU under Stoops when he was some qb issues, Mack had trouble winning the big game, Tressel was on the hot seat a few weeks back, Carrol leads the most underproducing team in the country

meanwhile Miles has LSU (likely) to go 17-7, ranked in the top 8 in the BCS after a HORRIBLE qb situation.

Miles is a top 20 coach with top 5-10 talent....every year. You always need luck to win titles (no matter who you are) and he'll catch some luck every now and then LSU will compete for nat'l tiles. When he doesn't, I'll take 9/10 win seasons with the occasional down year when things fall apart with 7 wins.

Agreed. But I think the Miles bashers feel like they need to be right about something in their pathetic lives, so I just ignore them most of the time - you don't want to be the one who adds the straw that breaks the camel's back on these guys.

4 of 5 years with 10 or more wins. How can anybody complain about that?

I suppose some fans would like to see a top 5-10 coach with this top 5-10 talent. Esp since Miles is paid like a top 1-5 coach.

Who under Miles has had a better career at their present school? I would argue that he is a top 6 coach.

yeah, my bad on the UF 5 loss thing

to be honest, accuracy wasn't what i was going for there...4/5 the point remains the same

Urban lost 4 games with a heisman qb, MIles lost 5 and 2 (likely) with basically no, and very pedestrian qb play

I mean, you could sit here and basically rag on Carroll and Stoops the same way...eventually, they'll probably prove you right too

College football isn't littered with coaches right now who'll go out like bear bryant...most of these guys (even the ones you think are elite) will likely end up being fired or forced out at some point

OK, Miles is #6.

But I wouldnt limit the question to who has done better at their current school. The issue is who would do better with LSU's resources. I like Miles a lot, but I do think there are coaches that are able to accomplish a lot with less talent. Such as Kirk Ferentz, Kelley at Cincy, Petrino, Schiano, Paul Johnson, Harbaugh.

Well, based on the shitstorm yesterday, Miles' teams don't win enough of the games that they're not supposed to win. Therefore, miles is merely a decent coach.

Or something like that.

I agree, but there is a part of me that would like to see what Brian Kelly or Petrino could do with LSU talent.

Thats where I disagree

Almost all of the time, someone can probably do better, and not just LSU.

The issue is we're damn good. Can you want to be better, yes. But the knee jerk reactions are ridiculous.

Non LSU fans bashed MIles and said he won with Sabans talent, now, they'll all just keep tlaking about the Miles collapse about to happen....whenever that is, they'll say "see, i told you so"

LSU fans (and alot other schools as well) need to be more realistic and realize we have one of the best progranms in the country right now. That being said, we will still have years where we underproduce, and will have some where we overproduce. Winning nat'l titles takes luck, no matter how good you are.

We are at a level with recruting and in a conference where when we get a good enough team, our staff is good enough to give us an honest run at a title. Will it happen every time? probably not, but it won't for other people either.

I dont want Miles to be fired, of course. I think he does a lot of things well and does not deserve to be fired anytime soon. But again, I think there are coaches that would do better and I cant help but wonder if another coach would have LSU rolling like Florida.

Check that: MB has won his only conf title, and subsequent natl title, with a once in a generation talent at QB. If he can pull it off this year as well, I think he becomes a truly elite coach in the company of Carroll or UM.

Of course not, but that wasnt the question. Bowden did better at FSU than Miles at LSU.

Be that as it may, he has done better at Texas than Miles at LSU. I guess he has an eye for elite QBs, bc Texas has been rolling the last few years.
