no, there have been plenty of instances in multitudes of games...not just LSU, if you had watched the tourney you seen it happen multiple of times...especially AGAINST LSU that it worked...

oh, forgive me. You're using a sample size of a small tournament for one 14-team conference as you're data. Much better

And Mr. WiseGuy posted 15+ years of agregated data that shows bunting reduces run expectancy.

ETA: the Ross bunt with runners on first and second didn't bother me. I could have went either way there.

I've used the tourney for example now but there have been plenty of times over the course of the entire season...but no need to go over the entire season now is it?

If someone is going to say that a baseball team should never sac bunt based on an aggregate statistic..then I would question their IQ

True...I don't advocate bunting every time, especially early in the game but there are times when its called for and I have no problem with anyone bunting no matter how high there average it...

I love pulling the unexpected and I've seen coaches pull it off many times catching the other team completely by surprise over the years using players to bunt that the other team wouldn't think would lay a bunt down...

I wouldn't say you should never sac bunt. Those kinds of absolutes are silly. That said, I would rather never sac bunt than bunt as often as Arkansas was. Giving away outs is a good way to suppress run scoring.

actually I do, and things I have and others have said took place in today's game...some reason those of us that advocate bunting in certain situations are being outcasted...

oh well...

You think us bunting played a major role in today's win?

The key is basing statistics on each team. you can't take a statistic for a league and then say a specific team should play by those statistics. Like i said in an earlier post...if the statistics say that on average a given team will have more success passing the ball on 3rd and 3 than running...that doesnt translate to every team..or any team.. given the situation. LSU or Wisconsin or Bama or Stanford or many other teams will probably have higher success rates running the ball.

People want some Utopian all-encompassing answer to what to do in any given situation. But that isnt feasible for the most part.

I'd say it played a pretty big role in Rhymes being able to score from third on a grounder to short in the 6th to take the lead.
