I have said earlier I wanted him to bunt before only bc the situation raph was in. I don't think it was a wrong call by CPM, just would have done it differently if it was me. Which is why none of us are big time baseball coaches

This makes sense to me.

From the statstics given, runs scored with no outs and a runner on !st. Is it possible that some of those runs scored occured because the runner was bunted over to second?

Couple of things from game. I am of the impression Stevenson is in the lineup for his defense and speed. How many pitches were thrown with him on first without ever trying to steal?

Also, if its someone with wheels on 1st, that I know will go 1st to third on a base hit to right, I would let Rhymes hit away, With Katz, I either bunt him ver or hit and run if the count is right.

The point is to chastise all the people who were calling Mainieri's decision not to bunt stupid and unjustifiable. I mean, come on, people. By the numbers, it's clearly the right call to make, and everybody knows that he's had a tendency to try to overbunt this season.

You saw the guy hit into a third DP, and you STILL think bunting in that situation would've been the wrong call.

Easy to say today. If Ibarra grounds out on the next at bat, you aren't even starting this thread.

This board's becoming fricking insufferable.

You realize bunting Rhymes there is the right call..... Not was the wrong call.

That is true all day..... But i agree Maineri does often bunt in the wrong places.... A lot.

easy to say that bunting is the right call after he already hit into the double play.

let me ask you, very similar situation last weekend against. late in the game, down one, katz on first, less than two outs. should we have bunted Raph then?

Except for the fact I thought he should be bunting BEFORE he hit into the DP.

As other posters have said, CPM does have a tendency to bunt in the wrong situations. This, however, would not have been one of those situations.

Big difference between bottom of the 8th at home and top of the 9th on the road.

Should he have bunted against Ole Miss last weekend in a nearly identical situation?

See above. The situations weren't nearly identical, and Raph hadn't already grounded into two DPs in that game. Plus, they weren't facing elimination last weekend.

But actually, I was a bit surprised he didn't bunt Raph last weekend.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. Luckily Mainieri sees it the way the percentages and probabilities suggest.
