Seriously, even being 100% innocent, only an idiot would talk to the police without a lawyer.

They want to ask you a few questions - which would make perfect sense since most murders are committed by people who knew the victim.

He got very bad advice from his agent. He should have been screaming from the rooftops that he was innocent. Instead he clammed up and let the process play out without rebuttal.
Regardless, it was dumb of the Saints not to throw a 7th round pick at him before the end of the draft. How sweet would that have worked out? Can't believe no one drafted him just on a whim.
Just goes to show that the NFL and all their processes, player personnel, scouting services/departments, and they let that get by them. Amazing.

If you are innocent, intelligent and logical you don't need an attorney to give a statement. You're a joke if you need one. Every attorney I know and I'm related to a fifth circuit federal judge and three others will tell you to give your statement then wait. I also know countless attorneys, they're a dime a dozen, that will tell you that you need them and sometimes you might but not always. If you are innocent, intelligent and logical and you stand to lose millions if you don't give your statement, give it, the truth will set you free. How did not talking work out for Lael?
