Why did we lose to Troy? Because Troy is damn good at 10 and 2. Because of injuries to key players. Because Arden Key was a mere shell of his previous self.

Nonetheless, as soon as the key players returned back to playing, LSU went on an SEC winning streak.

So ultimately the reason why Troy beat LSU is because they got lucky and caught us at the right time. However, if we would play them today at full speed, we'd blow them out.

I’ll give O credit when LSU wins the SEc and/or the national championship. Hell, I’ll give him some credit if we play for them.

I give O big time credit for turning this season around when it was all but assured that we were going to crash and burn in historic fashion.

But I still don't think he's a great coach.

For me (and probably a lot of other onlookers) he needs to do several more things before he has my trust.

1. Win the bowl game.
2. Finish out this year's recruiting class strong (Hold on to Marshall!!!!)
3. Make a strong hire to replace Canada if needed. (Obviously this does not mean Ensminger)
4. Implement and develop an actual threat at the QB position next year.
5. Win at least 10 (regular season) games in 2018.
6. Finish with a top 3 class for 2019.

These are all attainable, reasonable requests. If he fails to accomplish more than 1 of these he needs to be fired. How and when is tricky, but it won't get any better going forward if he cant do it now.

I credit O for one game, the Auburn win this year, obviously he made a change at half and motivated the team to come out 2nd half. I credit Aranda for the rest, only reason we've had opportunities to win these games. Offense has been terrible and inconsistent.

that's like getting a liberal to give credit to trump. it's not gonna happen. we have some dumb fans at LSU. they all think that they are the greatest at the things they do but coach O get's no credit for the win's . but all the credit for the losses.

Our schedule was weak sauce this year. The SEC teams we beat will all have different coaches next year. We lost to every team with a pulse, including the powerhouse Trojans of Troy

He lost to Troy. He has to do better this year. If anything he underachieved.

Two losses to two teams that have no business ever beating LSU in Troy and MSU. If he handles business then we are in top 5-6 right now.

So the division winner, who beat AlaBama AND went to the SEC Championship (result is immaterial, they got there) doesn't have a pulse?

How many times did Jimbo and Herman lose to Troy at home?

How many times did Jimbo get blown out by BC?

How many times did Herman lose to inferior teams while at UH?

My point is EVERY coach will have a bad loss from time to time. If it's a trend then i would be worried. I'll take the wait and see approach on O.

Saban got plenty of credit.

Yes he did...when he went to Bama.

2004, he was about to get tarred and feathered and the "fanbase" was calling him a one-hit wonder. Much like how chizik is viewed.

I would 100% agree with this. That's a reasonable list. I would say top 5 class would be fine with me though. Apparently you can't be a rational fan on here though.

Orgeron is not only the latest to make the Top 20 Worst Hires of All Time List...He made it twice. Outstanding for a D-Line Coach to get a guaranteed 4 year contract in Alleva's midnight stupor without even meeting with Herman. Contrast that with the hiring of Saban by ALA which took 38 days of total confidential work to structure an offer he could not refuse.

quote:

After 16 seasons under the leadership of first, Nick Saban and then Les Miles LSU briefly returned to national prominence. LSU may have given all of that back with the hiring of Orgeron. His top qualifications for the job seem to have been he was interested, he was available and he’s from Louisiana."

In reality, the criticism aimed at "O' is really just a shot at LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva who "rushed to hire a man with no other offers and a career 3-21 SEC coaching record."
