It's not money, LSU is probably putting up the 1.3M which is more than most DC's are making.
It's not a lack of talent or recruiting; LSU's defense is LOADED & would give an incoming DC a treasure trove of talent to start with.
It's not lack of prestige; this is LSU & the SEC.
Is it Miles?
Is it Alleva?
Is it the "no guarantee" clause that sent Chavis to aTm?
OR, is Miles just sitting back watching everyone implode while he is sitting on the guy he wanted, & got, from the beginning & just waiting for the "right time" to make the announcement? Maybe he's not done coaching? Maybe an NFL guy?

I think it's because Les actually reads TD, and there are just soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many threads on this subject to weed through.....

Alleva is trying to use clause in contracts that say if miles is fired, his asst. Go too and they only get paid for 6months

People are underestimating how hard it is to lure a current DC for a lateral move to LSU if their current school matches any potential offer by LSU unless their current situation is toxic.

I'm just trying to figure out why assistants and coordinators deserve buyout protection and guaranteed contracts when if a head coach leaves odds are they are gonna leave to.

Assistants salaries are out of control too and frankly none of them deserve a raise after this season and a new def coord hire hasn't earned the money Chavis was making and Cameron certainly didn't earn his this year and neither did Miles

Do you clowns have even the vaguest idea what a major organization goes through to find a replacement for a senior executive directly under the CEO? And in most cases without the 24 hour media scrutiny that has every move disclosed to the public? This has been 10 days. Get a life.

I'm not sure it has been difficult. All I've heard is a bunch of really crappy rumors that may or may not be true.

Les Miles - No coach wants to jump on a sinking ship. They saw the game on 1/9 and realize the Defense didn't cost that game, Les Miles did...

That makes sense. If Miles leaves the new guy most probably have his own guys he wants to bring in. Not too many new head coaches want to be stuck with hold over assistants some of whom had probably interviewed for the job. That's like having a knife at your back all of the time. Coaching staffs aren't immune to office politics.

Well being that Shoop just got a 3 year 1 million dollar a year contract, I doubt it is money. I don't think we are pushing hard enough on the pursuit of a DC because Les feels like he has Haley/Coach O as a fall back plan.

Or if we are trying to offer him a deal like cameron's that is 3M but is back loaded he got the better deal from PSU.

This isn't some new policy around college football, in fact it's been the standard for years and it's common sense

Most reasonable post on the subject on the entire website.

The whole situation just seems like nobody really knows anything. Also, whoever keeps posting the 90% threads is jinxing everything. I'll blame that person for Pendergast and Shoop falling through, if that is the case. We are talking interviews now, not one report has come out about a real contract offer because that phase hasn't come up yet. We'll know soon enough.

All very true but the new bar for top DC's now is around what Chief was making at LSU. If you are going to bring in a named DC you are going to have to pay up, that simple. If you bring in someone who is trying to make a name for himself than you don't have to pay that rate.

Yes they will probably leave too because the new coach will want to pick his own staff, but in the past it didn't matter everyone was on contract so the entire staff got paid if the HC was let go or left for another school. LSU is trying to change that and start a new trend so that if Les was fired or quit LSU would not be on the hook for assts. that the new coach might not want.

Tenn is in an awful spot because they are paying like 3 different staffs because of their head coach turnover. LSU is trying to avoid that, but I don't see us in that kind of situation anyway.

2 reasons i can think of just off the top of my head.

1. LSU is just a job to a coach, because it is. They aren't fans.

2. Maybe he wants to bring a couple of coaches on his current staff with him, but he is saddled with defensive coaches of which some of them he may not want?

No they don't I have tried to explain how big business works to posters on this board before and they have never lived it so they can't understand it. You are basically going to be doing this to yourself if you try and waste your time explaining big business to some individuals on this board.
