It's hard to coach a defense and win games, when the offense is one dimensional

New DC candidates want to bring in their own guys. Miles feels the people that are in place have more than earned their coaching positions.

Maybe he wants to bring a couple of coaches on his current staff with him, but he is saddled with defensive coaches of which some of them he may not want?

I don't see that as a impediment. It is not the norm for an OC or DC to move with a bunch of assts.

I don't see that as the issue.

honestly, it's mostly timing. Aggy stole Chavis after the bowl which meant that most of the good free agent DC's were already off the market.

There might be some more names popping up as NFL FOs start to make their hires, though.

I'm not sure it has been difficult.

Exactly! I don't think it has "been difficult". I, for one, have MORE optimism in the DC hire the longer it takes. It actually shows someone is THINKING about the situation and not just jumping to a conclusion just because a few Rantards are crying.

Whether or not they make the right choice in another topic... but at least it appears they are THINKING about the decision.

I'm sure they have made more phone calls than just BeBe, Shoops and Haley.

Some teams have made quicker hires... and some teams also made bad hires. No need to rush into something just to pacify dumbass Rantards.

Your asking someone to come in, with no input on staff, and join a coach in the twilight of his career. It is a risky proposition for an up-and-coming coach and you probably wouldn't get a slam dunk unless they were given HC-in-waiting.

The issue might be the new contracts many of the assistants signed prior to the bowl game. A new DC who would come to LSU not knowing the strengths/weaknesses/ personalities of his staff might be hard to find.

is Miles just sitting back watching everyone implode while he is sitting on the guy he wanted, & got, from the beginning & just waiting for the "right time" to make the announcement?

To me it is looking more and more like Miles wants to promote from within "Hailey" and he has to go through the motions to make it seem like an exhaustive search was done and the right candidate is already here.

If that is the case and they do hire BeBe also, that might not be a really bad scenario. Don't know how good a DC Hailey is, but we do know that BeBe is a hell of a recruiter and with him and Wilson "if ego's don't get out of hand" recruiting in East Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. I seriously think we will be vying for recruiting titles every year the 2 of them are at LSU together.

I definitely agree that could be a sticking point probably for a named DC but not a DC trying to make a name for himself.

Which in itself is a risk. Also consider the fact that he would be managing a cadre of assistants that don't now him, have no loyalty to him and some of whom probably wanted the job for themselves. It would take an exceptional person to manage in that situation. Therefore, don't rush into anything until you are as sure as humanly possible that the choice is the right one.
