Some guys lose speed with the pads on, and some guys get faster when someone is chasing them.

That is exactly why GM's should go by game film and not combine times. I probably watch all of JH's runs at LSU and I can't ever remember him getting caught from behind. He always seemed to have that 5th gear. It also shows running in shorts and a tee shirt is a whole lot different than running in pads and helmet.

Some of the combine drills are pretty useless
Football speed is a lot different than straight ahead speed
It's more agility and making cuts and small bursts that lead to big plays in and out of formations

True. Hil in pads does not get caught from behind. Bama had lots of 4.75 260 pound linebackers that are playing like beasts in the nfl.

he's the only RB besides Trindon Holliday and Keiland Williams who could just run away from LBs and even DBs.

Well, it's just not true that he could run away from DBs; they were all faster than him. What a lot of people, who focus on 40 times, don't realize is that the difference between 4.6 and 4.5 speed is probably only three feet over the course of a long run. There are plenty of RBs with 5.0 speed who have the cuts and power to get the job done. Those guys can be run down from five yards back, but a 4.6 cannot.

So, Jeremy Hill ran a 4.66 40 yd dash At the combine. Seems like he had an off day cause he is way faster than that. This just goes to show you that its not all about combine results. You have to watch the film, cause if you would have watched Jeremy Hills film at LSU you would have seen that all he did was break big runs and rarely, if ever, got caught from behind. really rare blend of size and

Ran 4.5 consistently at his pro day at 233. Outstanding at his size.

Remember when the rantards were saying that Hill wasn't even the best RB on the LSU roster?

Bo Jackson looked like that. His legs seemed to be going really slowly but he was passing people up.

Jarvis is a great example. Has consistently run 4.6 to 4.7 his entire life, and will be a finalist for rookie of the year, he returns punts in the NFL, etc. What matters is how you play in pads, bottom line.

He understands angles and DB rotation and alignment. Once he brakes the first level he cuts to where the DB's aren't. Once Fournette learns this it's on!!!

I dont understand how so many GMs frick this up. I think it has to do with alot of them not ever playing sports maybe. It is so easy if you played to know how hard it is to actually run 100% full speed during a sport. You are thinking about where to go and what to do so going all out is hard. That is why a straight sprint with nothing on your mind is worthless
