I have to cover that Godforsaken place for my territory and I've never seen such creepy-arse people in my entire life, especially in northern Alabama. Frightening is putting it lightly. Alabama football is ALL that they have. It's really sad when you see these people. They're as ignorant as ignorant gets on many levels. I didn't believe it until I had to start going there for work but every stereotype of the southern redneck that you've heard of can be found there in great numbers.

Ignorant? Pot calling kettle black?

Hardly! Growing up in southern Louisiana, we all heard about rednecks and we all saw the movie Deliverance but we thought it was all over inflated rhetoric. The sad truth is that is not over inflated. Huntsville is better than much of northern Alabama and that is due to the fact that there are many in the aerospace industry that have moved there from other parts of the country and around the world, not because of the native Alabamans. Thank goodness for that! I cover all parts of Alabama and I have never seen so many dirty, toothless people with confederate flags flying from their homes, their cars, you name it. It was and is truly a frightening place for people who did not grow up seeing that display. When I stop at a convenience store, I'm stunned, just stunned by these people. I thought that people like that existed only in the poorest regions of Appalachia but there are untold numbers in Alabama. Say what you want but it's actually better in Mississippi (which I also cover) than in Alabama.

I guess the rule I've always heard about the game can't end on a defensive foul doesn't apply here?

Not in this case.

If it were a "live ball" foul, such as defensive pass interference, or offsides, then yes. Penalty yardage added, and one untimed down.

But the helmet rule is written as a Dead Ball foul. It's assessed after the play. Since Bama recovered the ball, it was a change of possession. Penalty would have been back bama up 15 yards, bama ball.

Thanks for the explanation.
Trying to refresh my memory; was the play dead when the Bama player touched the ball after it was blocked, and when did Cody pull his hat off in relation to that happening?
What I'm getting at , the game actually ends when the play is over, not when time runs out, right?
But then it doesn't matter if it's a dead ball foul. Got it..

I find it comical that people in Louisiana want to classify people in Alabama as redneck. I'm orginally from Denham Springs (I still have a house in The Willows subdivision)and if you want to see the definition of a redneck, go to the heart or the middle of Livingston Parish. After you tour all of Livingston Parish, I suggest you take a tour of the poor parishes in north Louisiana. I hate to burst your bubble, but I believe that you'll find true rednecks in every southern state.

Having traveled extensively throughout God's country, I would have to agree with this. Although one can find similar red-neck-ed-ness in states like Maine, Missouri, Oregon, Idaho, California (I grew up in a highly redneck-ified area of SoCal), Texas, or just about any other state that has rural areas (ok take Rhode Island off the list). Face it, this country was built on the backs of the 'rednecks' and it is they who make up the majority of the armed forces (past and present) who are out there fighting and dying so some panzy-assed city people can make fun of them while sipping $5 lattes massaging moisturizer products into their keyboard-roughened hands and scheduling their next hair/manicure/hair removal appointment on their Iphone.

Just to be clear, rednecks ARE AMERICA, like baseball, hot dogs, and apple pie: coon arse, cowboy, hillbilly, down-easter, whatever. And it is the pussified-liberal-gun-fearing-all-conforming city people that are out of touch with true American individualistic and self-reliant ideals.

Back on topic, the blatant favoritism by the officials is now being noticed by non-partisan observers. In the past, when a coach, player, or fans complained, it was written off as them being sore losers.

Obviously, like someone pointed out, now 3 (at least 2 of them are somewhat respected and still retain a shred of credibility--sorry UT fans) coaches and the media are catching on to the fact that something is rotten in Birmingham.

LSU fans have known it for years.

sure, but come on. can you really blame the kid? he wasn't taunting. he thought the game was over.

He violated the rules of the game. What's so difficult to understand about this? What about a block-in-the-back penalty that has NO bearing on the outcome of a play? Should that flag not be thrown because it had no detrimental effect on the play?
