not stressing over a worthless player leaving the program would be a step in the right direction in regards to ascertaining coolness

I didn't want to turn this into a dump on LM thread.

Fact is les miles recruitment of qbs since he's been here has been one huge fricking fail.
Somebody a while back posted all if them.
It was eye opening.

This shouldn't be an issue at a school like LSU.
Case in point, is there another position on the team that has gone like qb has?

That's why I said thank god for ZM.

Ok.

Just bc he was the better of a bad situation doesn't change things.

LOL at the weak attempt to be clever and miss the entire point.
Congrats.

wonder if we are the only school to lose 3 QBs in a off season due to transferring and not draft, injury,or graduation

Technically he was a WR, and no we are not. Texas Tech lost 4 or t I believe. Their starter was LITERALLY the only QB on the roster until the guy they signed in 2014 got there in the summer.

We had a bad 4 year run at QB, before that we had JR, Flynn, and RP (for a couple of games), Then we had Mett. In between those guys was the problem for 4 years.

People also take the "four straight years" thing and run with it. JJ played better than expected of a true sophmore starting his first year in the SEC. Add the fact that his OL was swiss cheese and his run game was that of a Leach ran offense at best. Both QBs played good in every game except Bama and UGA (#1 and #3 defenses in the nation) in 2011.

In actuality, we only had bad QB play in 2008, 2010 and 2012.

and why would you? how often has lsu had a comfortable enough lead against a legitimate opponent to warrant risking pulling the starter? no competent football coach with an established #1 QB would ever put in the backup until the game was well in hand. and les does play the backup in these situations. problem is, we don't play many games against good teams that are blowouts before the 4th quarter.

I agree with you somewhat, but I saw Miles pull Jennings after a bad snap from the center. Mett was put in immediately to try to convert. That was 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter up 42-17. We get the ball back after they do nothing, and he puts Mett back in to throw a FIFTH TD against UAB already up 42-17. That told me he would not get a chance to do any kind of passing at all during the year.

I usually don't care, but that made no sense to me.

Hmmm.

Yeah, sure, he or Walter Mitty.

This is one of Mile's weaknesses. He refused to let anyone other than the starting QB get meaningful snaps until he has no choice

Not a weakness; it's a strength, and one shared by almost all coaches. What they realize is that you keep your starters in until the game is secure. At that point it's most important to sit your other starters to avoid injury. Once you do that there are no more meaningful snaps. The backups are in, and they will blow assignments, get your QB killed (if you're passing), run bad routes, etc.

I also wonder why he didn't give Rettig an opportunity

Oh, let me clear that up for you. Rettig sucked. I posted that on this board the week after the Army AA game. His performance in that game was so bad, relative to the other QBs, that I prayed that AJ was good.

tldr: Miles knows what he's doing.

Go back and dig through all SEC schools' QB recruiting and report back how similar the story is...start with Alabama if you like

Finally someone might be figuring it out!

Bolden's goal is to get a doctorate, keep transferring, sitting out years, and milk that free college to its maximum level--LOL!

No, it has not. You are an absolute idiot in this line of thinking.

You realize the difference in ZM his first starting season and his second? It's called an actual offensive coordinator..

Am I mistaken? I could have sworn that a Clise was taking throws with Rettig and company in the spring and was looking pretty good in practice. Is he not on the team anymore? Seems like no body ever mentions him.

Word is that Bolden wanted playing time just to get on the field they tried to make him happy and thought he would be good match up problem for defenses alot of players had success from making the switch from QB to DB to WR , he does have alot of athletic ability he was progressing as receiver bit it didn't work out, he would be buried behind the depth chart so they tried to switch him back to QB

but the kid that walked on Bergeron is ahead of him better arm just more rounded QB, coaches are impressed with him- he is good player had leg up on Bolden and said he would be ahead of Bolden and Bolden would be the 4th Qb.

Bolden wanted playing time just to sniff the field more, wish him best of luck.

This is good for recruiting because we do have top some recruits that is heavily looking at LSU at the QB position they are looking at the depth chart trying to figure out where to go and get some playing time and how long would they sit for if they came to program- 1year is fine but sitting on the bench for multiple years kids will just look at other programs hopefully this clears the deck somewhat.

I didn't say why it was a fail, just that up to ZM it has been so.

Baseball draft, trouble makers, under development, over hyped, not enough chest, wrong qb coach bla, bla, bla fricking bla ......However you need to justify it pal.

Doesn't change how things have gone at this position.

You mentioned Alabama, one thing that's propelled them over past few yrs is the fact they've hard consistent qb play.
LSU hasn't.
One of the key differences and factors for each teams ultimate success.

No reason to be mad at the facts.
Only an idiot does that.

When it comes to the QB position, history says otherwise. The QB position has been a clusterfrick for almost 5 years now. Mett was an anomaly...we got lucky and picked him up out of JUCO because he played with some girls titties.

The recruitment and development of QB's at LSU has totally sucked, and it's because of Miles philosophy of football, which is that the QB is not instrumental in the success of the play, he's merely another piece of the machinery. Miles game is to play 'keep away' or ball control from the other team until the time clock expires. It's amazing that after 8 years with the guy some people still don't see this.

Thank God for Cameron, who actually coached Mett up last year so we could have a decent season. If we can keep Miles hands off the offense and the QB position, the future could be bright.
