Couldn't wait for the top 25 to come out to see how many votes we would receive... I would always see Michigan, FSU, OU, Ohio ST and think man wouldn't it be awesome to always be ranked in the top 10? Last year ended crappy but it was a great ride... Hope we win it all this year but if not i'll still enjoy it... To think i actually threw a big party to celebrate us making the independence bowl...

Too well.

I was thinking he other day that there will probably be a year n the next decade when we'll lose three games. That's going to suck bad enough. I don't think the fan base could handle going back to actual losing seasons.

I've been following the Tigers since 1956 at age 11. The many peaks and valleys are part of my life's experiences. Worst was the six straight losing seasons under Archer/Hallman. The best, of course, has been the 21st century.

I went to LSU on the middle 60's and again in the early seventies, and have been a season ticket holder since.

The most important lesson learned in all those years surrounds replacing Coach Charlie MacLendon after the 1979 seaso. "Help Mac Pack," and "ABM" (Anybody But MacLendon) read the bumper stickers. He was replaced by Bo Rein, who tragically died without coaching a game. Then came twenty years of mediocrity, with the exception of 3 years of Bill Arnsbarger's brilliance, until the Nick Saban hire in 1979.

More recently, there have more than a few calls for Coach Les Miles head. This is extremely short sighted, counterproductive to intelligent discourse, and, frankly, stupid.

Surely, there will be less productive seasons than we have recently enjoyed. While not welcomed, such is to be expected.

It should be our quest to support the Tigers regardless of any year's record. I have for 55 years and wouldn't have it any other way.

Forever, LSU

As a kid growing up watching LSU I thought we had hit the big time if we just made the top 20. I never thought I would see the run we have had over the past 12 years in my lifetime. Here's to 14-0 this year.

I remember reading polls in the Daily Reveille when I was in school back in the late 80's, early 90's. I was always hoping/praying to see us crack the top 20 (I think that was the polls back then). I almost wish (not really) that we could have a couple of years like that again just so the rantards could how bad it can really be.

Yeah we stormed out of Tiger Stadium into the streets after the Arkansas game in 1995 like we were running from bulls in Spain, out of excitement for the Independence Bowl.

Hell I would get excited upsetting Florida on my PlayStation 2.

I remember sitting through an LSU loss to Tulane. Yes, that's right Tulane. Some of the younger rantards have no idea how much worse things could be.

Miles is the 1st coach since Dietzel to lead a #1 team onto the field in Tiger Stadium. He's done it a bunch. By the end of this season, it's very possible the Tigers will have played as #1 at home in more games under Miles then in all the rest of the school's combined history. That has happened while competing in the strongest division of the football conference in NCAA history. Point being, as much as I loved Cholly Mac, Les has been a great coach.

You and I are of the same generation. Your post is spot on. I couldn't have expressed it any better myself !

P.S. That '69 team was pretty good though, wasn't it ?

My first exposure to Tiger Stadium was 1958, when I was twelve. Got spoiled in a hurry. '58-'62 Good Times indeed. But it did not last, and I
also learned humility throughout the years. The pain didn't kill me and it made me REALLY appreciate the present success. Win or lose, I'm proud to be an LSU Tiger.

I can still remember when I was about 8 years old (1992) telling people my favorite team was the Tigers and them laughing at me and calling us a joke, and now those same people are wearing toonces clothes daily

Hiring a third good HC in a row after Coach Miles departure is going to be a big trick.

Too vividly.

I remember losing seasons and dreams crushed more than 1/9. The 90s was a painful roller coaster.

Hell yes I remember it. I remember watching Mississippi State in the SECCG, thinking how much I'd give to see LSU in that game and asking myself why LSU couldn't just get there.

The young whippersnappers don't understand. They expect a national championship run every year. That is very nice, but it will not continue forever.

We have been blessed to see the last two coaches who in my opinion are the best that LSU has ever had. Dietzel was pretty darn good and arguably better than Saban or Miles either one, but he left so soon after establishing the program that we will never know.

Enjoy it folks. We are living in the golden age of LSU football.

There sure has been a lot of "remember when we used to suck?" threads going on lately. Football season can't get here soon enough

I remember looking at the AP preseason poll and hoping we were in the 'also receiving votes' category with a bunch of other teams.
