am wondering about the new DH rules for the NL. Could this mean some of these guys go higher now?
Don’t get me wrong, I think Berry will go high. I see him more of a top 15 guy. But if he hits SEC pitching like Morgan did last year, he absolutely could go in the top 5.

I didn't realize how close the batting stats were last year for Crews and Morgan.
Both finished with nearly identical numbers at the plate except for HRs and 3Bs.
64 Runs, 89 Hits, 16 2B, and 42 RBIs.
Biggest difference would be Crews power numbers with 18 HRs. Tre had 3 more ABs and finished at 0.357 compared to Crews's 0.362 BA.

Morgan’s SLG% in SEC games was 100pts higher than Crews’, too

I will reserve any rating of our hitters till after the Houston weekend where we face top line pitching. All but a few of our hitters were completely helpless against top line pitching. I feel that JJ will be be much better at adjustments based on who is pitching instead of swinging for the fence whether you're facing Leiter, Rocker, Bednar etc or McNeese, Nichols

Ok. Lets play that game. Who do you want with runners on 1st and 2nd down two in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out?
I’m picking crews all day but this is a dumb game
If discussing situational hitting is a dumb game, ur in the wrong place fella.
Where are we? Top of the order now? So Morgan, Berry, Crews with 1 out?
OR
Crews up with 1 out and Doughty behind him?
OR
If we're talking 1 guy, 1 AB, make ur scenario 2 outs.

Morgan is a better pro prospect than Berry I think.
Agree. In OF and leadoff.

What I do like about Morgan is, he will hit it to opposite field if it’s an outside pitch or hit it to right field if the pitch is inside. He doesn’t try to just hit for power every at-bat and that’s why his average will most likely always be good.

Gio is good when healthy and has shown that. I’d love for him to find a spot in this lineup but unfortunately I don’t know how both he and Dugas can at the same time.
Just throwing out a guess but wouldn't it work with an outfield of
LF: Dugas
CF: Crews
RF: Gio
Berry plays 3B and Jobert DH?
Posted on 2/21/22 at 9:18 am to Lester Earl
Crews is gonna have to go behind the plate to get all of the hitters in there.

Merrifield is too good in the IF to bench.
I know we all love this offense, but we need to balance defense too. If Merrifield can hit 280+, he's got to be on that left side somewhere.

IF Thompson struggles at the plate (not saying he will, just playing hypothetical), can Merrifield slide over to SS and free up that 3B spot for Berry and Gio to RF?
Or is he limited athletically to the corner?

Merrifield has almost always played middle infield, so yes. He played mostly 2B in juco.
ETA: Doughty would likely slide to SS, with Merrifield to 2B. I don't see that happening. Thompson will be fine.

He played 2B at LSUE. Not sure what he would look like at SS.
I don't think Thompson is on the list of players who's spot is up for grabs though.

Merrifield is not a SS in my opinion. Thompson has to perform for LSU to be a good team

Merrifield doesn't have the quick twitch instincts or the range that Thompson does.
Thompson is not going anywhere.

I'm assuming you mean defensively, not offensively, because the lineup is stacked outside of Milazzo and Thompson...and Thompson had a pretty good weekend at the plate despite being overshadaowed by most everyone else.
Thompson had 2 singles, 4 walks, a HBP and only 1 SO in 13 PA/8 AB. That's a .538 OBP which is better than everyone except the handful of guys who absolutely lit it up this weekend (Jobert, Doughty, Crews, DiGiacomo).
Even if Thompson only hits mid-high .200 range this season if he can get on base at a high clip towards bottom half of lineup, that's a win out of your SS.
Posted on 2/21/22 at 11:29 am to thunderbird1100
Yep at the bottom part of your lineup if you can have some guys with around .350 on base percentage that be nice. But I think Thompson will do well this year I can see him hitting around .270-.280 pretty easily if he builds off of last year and progresses.Really no telling what these guys can do till we see a larger sample size and some SEC opponents
Posted on 2/21/22 at 1:02 pm to BigDonkey69
Umm Milazzo was more productive than basically anyone we inserted into the latter half of the game on Sunday. If you think hes the worst hitter you've ever seen then you havent been watching Drost or Holt swing the bat.

Thompson is the short stop and will be unless he gets injured. Also, Doughty would probably be the next guy in line to play short.
LSU definitely has a finding at bats for people problem which is a great problem to have. It will all play itself out as the season goes on. Outside of Milazzo at catcher, who will split time at minimum all year, if you don’t hit you won’t play.
