re: Why are all of the south african folks I meet white, when S. Africa is 7% white? - lsugradman
South Africa probably has the largest percentage of white expats in the world (compared to whites who were born there). I know many South Africans and have traveled there and its very very difficult to be a white South African there now. Most white native SA's are living abroad and have no plans to ...

re: Finding yourself in a foreign bar with another American - lsugradman
Just last weekend I was in Jakarta and got into an elevator with 3 Koreans who all had clear American accents. Turns out they grew up in NYC and even knew a few DJ friends of mine. Ended up chatting with them and bar hopping all night and even got invited to one of their weddings in a couple months....

re: Life in Louisiana - Considering moving home - lsugradman
Does it have to Baton Rouge? If you are an engineer in O&G I think you would have more opportunities in NO or heck even on the northshore. I lived in Houston for 7 years before moving to Mandeville and it was altogether a great move for us. Best place to live with a young family in LA. Great public ...

Incredibly difficult to get a degree in PETE while playing football. Best of luck to the young man in his endeavors but that will be a challenge. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at Penn St....

re: WTF is going on with all these earthquakes - lsugradman
All faults and earthquakes are not the result of plate tectonics, ie movement at active plate boundaries. The Nepal and Papua earthquakes are plate boundary related but the recent shallow quakes in TX, OK and MS have nothing to do with "plate tectonics" per say. Those could very well be linked to an...

re: WTF is going on with all these earthquakes - lsugradman
Yeah nothing really unusual going on. Most of the small shallow quakes in TX and OK are likely related to large volumes of waste water disposal. ...

re: Anyone feel the two Mississippi earthquakes last night? - lsugradman
Most of these earthquakes are being caused by waste water disposal and not fracking. The amount of fluid injected during fracking operations is typically not enough to trigger seismic activity although I am sure there have been instances where the proximity to a fault line may have caused a small qu...
