Yeah, just like 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2009

No question. It's a high risk/high reward game. The question is whether this game would almost be seen as diminishing returns: is LSU risking a non conference loss when it could have played North Texas for the same result? If you replace Oregon with Directional U, and LSU goes undefeated they would still be in the MNCG, right? Is it an unnecessary risk? I don't know, but it's good stuff.

This is the type of game college football is all about. We can't be afraid of the Pac 10. After all, someone needs to rep the conference instead of Tennessee constantly losing.

How is it a mistake?

Don't you want to see good, interesting matchups between LSU and other teams?

Hey... do you remember when we beat East Carolina back in 1985? Really? You don't?

How about that GREAT win over Ohio University in 1989. That was awesome. What? You don't remember that one either?

Do you remember 1979 USC game, then? Sure you remember that one. How about Ohio State 1987... yeah... everybody remembers that one. And we didn't even win either game.

Listen... playing football and being out there and competing in or watching a damn good game is its own reward. Make some memories... don't waste your life annihilating cupcakes.

If LSU is destined to be a champion, it will beat Oregon in game #1 next year.

Don't try to "manufacture" championships by manipulating schedules. It's bad for football. The great immortal teams of the past sought out competition. They wanted to test themselves.

One day you will realize, hopefully soon... that competition is a privilege of great teams. When you figure that out, sports becomes a lot more enjoyable for you.

I apologize if already stated, but it's worth mentioning that Oregon does not usually start well, and defenses are typically ahead of offenses early in the season.

LSU hasn't had much difficulty in winning big games early in the year.

I like the matchup, and will be there.

We are playing TCU the opener the following year. This is a very very very good thing. Oregon plays in a conference that has only fielded two teams with winning records (that they have played thus far). TCU and Boise State both play in terrible conferences. The media is sick of power conferences getting all the cookies so what you're seeing this year is teams from the three weakest conferences in the top 4. Every other conference with strong 1 or 2 loss teams is getting punished by the voters and media this year.

No matter what, we are going to play a strong schedule. You're right. However, given that it's almost impossible that we'll go undefeated, we might as well give ourselves a shot by making sure teams with cake schedules like Oregon and TCU get a loss tacked on their schedules as well. This year should teach you something. Strength of schedule isn't stopping any unranked Oregon, TCU or Boise State from being on top of a 1 loss team in the BCS. May I reiterate that Oregon's only played two teams with winning records themselves.

Nope. Not at all. It's about the JOY of the game. The passion of the fans. The thrill of competition. Each and every game should have the significance of this one. Each game is a playoff. The danger of losing the game makes it all the more exciting and worth playing. If every football teams' schedule was set solely for that particular teams convenience and for safe wins, think how utterly boring the season would be.

Because what if we beat them? They are the ones starting 0-1. So lets say we played them to start this year and beat them. They would have 1 loss just like us(assuming we still lose to AU) and people would be saying how LSU has already beat Oregon. The best way to get people out of your way is to beat them. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The best time to get at Oregon is early just like Boise got them early in 2009.

bullshite. Yeah, we need to replace Oregon with Nichols St.

Even losing that game will not destroy LSU's NC title hopes. It will certainly prepare LSU better than playing FCS directional University.

Dear God, I hope the Oregon board is full of pussies like you.

If this attitude is prevalent among the Oregon fans and team, then I love our chances.

Your post really makes LSU fans look like pansies.

I love this game, and I'll bet the players do too. Winners want to compete, and they want their competition to be the best available. Do you think recruits will be impressed by the opportunity to play in meaningful non-conference games with maximum national exposure, or do you think they will be impressed with the opportunity of playing ULL and ULM?

Fans should be interested in seeing the best contests, and they should have pride in their team win or lose. LSU's place in any MNC conversations will be primarily dependent on its results in the SEC. If we win the SEC, we will be in the discussion.

The Pac-10 is ranked higher than the SEC by the computers, btw.

I'd love to know when was LSU afraid to play a good team. I'd rather LSU play Oregon than ULM or La. Tech.

Last I checked, neither are going to play for a NC unless Auburn or Oregon lose...because of SOS.

Yes but there sos sucks big time. We schedule high school teams and win out and we go because SEC already gives us a strong strenght of schedule.

Why make a tough schedule insane when you know that you play for the title if you go undefeated.

Geez. . . I started this thread. To those of you who actually responded like adults, I appreciate it. As for the rest of you, slandering me because of my profession or political views (how is that relevant?), grow up. No, I'm not a coward. I'm a Tiger fan who raised a legitimate issue. Some of you sound like twelve year olds typing away on your mom's computer.

Why play the game if it isn't going to be competitive? It means nothing. No one, including the home fanbase gives a shite about playing rent a wins. They do nothing but add a W to the schedule. Rent a wins.
