Bare Bones statistics here to keep in mind. Man, it's nice to have an offense...

Total Yardage: 1464
Avg YDS/play: 8.06
PS: Defense has allowed 57 Points

Miles will always meddle in the offense!!

Too many for 3 'under-quality' opponents.

Great production so far! Especially with 1st downs. It will be interesting to compare the next 3 games with the first 3 games' stats.

Just as in the pros, we will see this team get more efficient as the year progresses. Early on teams must worry about the ball thrown over their heads which opens up run game. Execution will get sharper and look for more stick routes from backs and TEs over the middle in red zone.

tons of subbing and playing very young players
it will help in the future

False. Seven of those points came off of a kick return. Heck, technically a second TD is on Al Blue for fumbling on the 5.

anyone have a comparison from last year? or 2011? points would be easy enough..
but yards and what not......

Take 3 TD's from that 57 and it's more accurate

Plus a FG that was the direct result of a fumbled punt just before halftime. Even omitting the "young players in the 4th quarter" argument, the defense has really only given up 40 points in 3 games.
With today's offenses, that's not bad.

LSU had scored 145 points after three games last year.
1st downs: 74 in 2013; 71 in 2012
Total Yardage: 1464 in 2013; 1417 in 2012
YPP: 8.06 in 2013; 6.9 in 2012
Most passing yardage in any of the first three games in 2012 was 222 vs. Idaho.

The YPP is what really jumps of the page there.

Having a top rated defense is fantastic, but having to rely on them because your offense always goes three and out, sucks from a fan perspective.
I'd much rather have a top rated offense (with balance) and a serviceable defense. It is more exciting, and you are never out of a game because you can score quickly to get back in it if you fall behind.
I'm just hoping our young players on defense, especially the secondary starts to gel/improve so that we could have a top 10 offense and defense = CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Cincy, I'm with your analysis...I too expect the machine to be more oiled as the year progresses...we can look for more production from the entire Offense!

That's the big one in my opinion - otherwise they don't really differ from last year.
Passing yards/game thus far
251
282
264
The balance is what we've been lacking and it'll help all facets of the offense.

After taking a close look at the first three game stats between last year and this year the biggest difference is fewer short non-scoring drives this season. Last year there were quite a few drives of fewer than five plays that didn't end in scores (12 last year vs. 7 this year).
This year, in the first half of games, LSU has only had three (3) drives that were less than five plays that did not result in a score (1 vs. TCU and the last two drives of the first half against UAB (fumble and a punt) after LSU had already put 35 points on the board.
Just moving the chains several times on series when LSU doesn't score can make up some yardage differential for a young defense.

The biggest thing for this offense is that it hasn't been punched in the mouth yet. We'll see how it responds when it's been stung a few times. That will be the telling factor going forward.

the stat you're looking for is 3rd down conversion %. through 3 games last year we were at 50%, and finished the year at 40%. through 3 games this year we're converting almost 64%. we've been put in third down fewer times than any other team in the country who's played three games.
So projecting towards the end of the season, even if we downgrade that by the same percentage as we fell last year as we face tougher competition, or by the same proportion, we still end up damn near leading the fricking country in that category. And considering we didnt play a defense anywhere near as good as tcu's in the first three games last year, that is really an unbelievable turnaround.
