If TAF wouldn't control tickets then a lot more people would give to LSU.

Florida is really easy. You basically have to live here for one year and have your own residence, power bill in your name and and Florida DL for 12 months. After that, you are a Florida resident.

Back in the day when I went to LSU you had to work ful time for one year. That would mean that you would have to drop out iof college for a year. It's no damned wonder people flee Louisiana once they graduate.

Yeah and they flee primarily to Texas but only because it offer the best opportunity for economic prosperity. At least that is my excuse for leaving South Louisisna.

Has nothing to do with it. LSU alums as a whole seem to care more about football than the actual university and prove it with the horrible alumni association donation levels. PERIOD!

It's sad, but they all claim to love LSU, but all many really care about is LSU sports and nothing else. They will, however, take every opportunity to bitch about LSU's academic drawbacks as if they actually tried to do something about it.

Has nothing at all to do wit this.

LSU's football tix are still a bargain in 2010 when compared to other SEC schools.

Funny how Florida alums can afford both football tix AND donating to the academic side.

If a person didn't have to shell out money to keep their tickets they would be able to give more the LSU. Also, as I stated if they need to trim some fat, make LSU-A and LSU-E 2yr schools again.

Why not just cut LSU-A and LSU-E? Or make them into 2yr juco. For the size of LA there are to many colleges. Why not try to build a better juco sys and those kids can go to LSU/Tech/ULL(M)?

This is the answer, most states are doing this now. Those students that can't get into the premier state school go to a JUCO for 2 yrs and prove they can get in. This is the way our state should operate. ULM, grambling, nichols, northwestern, and any other crap schools should be eliminated. All of our money should be focused on building up our flagship university.

without looking at numbers, it's hard to say whether this would benefit or not...these schools do provide a service to those locals working their way through school, many times with families. They are serving a different purpose than the traditional 4-year school.

I think LSU-E is still a 2 year school....only LSU-A went to 4 year.

They should all be made into 2yr colleges. As someone stated before w/ in 45min drive on I-20 you have 3 4 yr colleges. And to be honest one of them isn't really worth a flip and lost it accreditation. I think they do serve a local need but for the size of the state there should be 3-4 colleges and the rest juco's. Will this ever happen, not a snowballs chance in hell.

considering how massive the state budget cuts are - there's no way they don't have to do stuff like this

I was an Out-of State Student...

When I first arrived it was like 7Gs a year by the time I left it was around 11, that was close to 5 years ago...What is it now?

When I was an OOSS though, that was WAY cheap compared to most OOS prices at other schools...

My HS was more expensive...

Again, if your priorities are for the football team more than the actual university, you have absolutely no right to bitch. You simply care more to support an athletic team than the academic university where you earned a degree.

People can bitch about TAF as much as they want and use them as an excuse for why they can't give to LSU, but all you just did was prove my point. Your priorities are extremely fricked up if you are bitching about LSU not giving out of state alumni a $10,000/year discount when you care more about the football program and give nothing to LSU on the academic side.

It seems a lot of my friends from Houston who went to LSU did so with the subsidized tuition due to their parents' alum status. What happened when they graduated? Pretty much all of them moved back to Houston. How did the state of Louisiana benefit from this? They aren't contributing to Louisiana's tax revenue or economy when they move back.

If you want to compete academically with Arkansas, Miss State, and Georgia Southern, this is a very good point.

without looking at details numbers surrounding their specific subsidization, what they did while at LSU, what they've done since, what they've contributed, and what they might do in the future, it's hard to say.

Well I understand the intention of this program and TOPS is bring in good out-of-state students and keep the good home-grown students. The reality is that people (myself included) are taking advantage of the cheap tuition then moving on, contributing to the brain drain.

Worst alumni donations in the entire SEC, yet highest or top of the ladder for donations to the athletic department. Got to love the priorties of Almuni.

I'm amazed we're in the middle of the pack of the SEC in endowment to begin with.

No sense in keeping tops with these kinds of cuts
