The best way to get this back is to donate to the $750 million endowment this "jerk" created.

Times are tough, got to get the best students not just the legacies. I feel for the people who will lose this opportunity but if they keep they're grades up they can get other scholarships.

Why should you give alums' kids in-state tuition if they decided to leave the state? You aren't putting tax money or consistent revenue into the state, so why should you get the benefits.

Sounds like a bunch of whiners who left the state to get paid and now want to get a discount.

I am glad he fixed this shite

If this is what LSU is producing, we are even further away from being a top national university than I thought.

As an out of state grad. I was disappointed on the ruling to end Bengal Legands, but I understand. LSU is one of the cheapest SEC schools on tuition and the school is going through very difficult times. Louisiana has always had this feeling that someone else should pay for stuff. Where else in the SEC or large conference where you can just arrive on campus; game day and receive free parking (just an example) Ex: The Univ. is too generious: Oh, by the way how many of the people on this site donate to the Univ. Check out the contributions from other schools, we should be ashame!!!

What's your point? The legacy scholarship, while nice, was impractical and counter-productive. Why should a kid whose parents left the state for work purposes and are thus not putting major money via taxes into the Louisiana state system that funds the university get a discount?

If you want in state tuition for your kids, live and work in the freaking state. I'd much rather that money go to support more scholarships for academic achievers within our own state, plain and simple.

If you get your education from LA then leave, then expect LA to fund your kids' education, you have done nothing but take from LA. Why should we feel bad for the out of state alums? If their kids are competitive students, let them earn a scholarship to LSU, then at least LA gets a good student out of the deal.

The complainers on this thread have not offered single reason why this is a bad idea.

We all should be angry with the state, not the university. For the past 2-3 years the state has told the public schools & universities to cut their budgets

I agree with this. There is a whole lot at LSU that is going to be affected by the cuts. People should be directing a lot of that anger at your representatives IMO.

My point:

1. In state parents already get a huge benefit for the taxes they pay. I have no problem with it.
2. LSU is a regional university. You are bordered by 3 states. 2 of them are dumps. Offering more money is not going to suddenly attract the top students outside of a few close states. LSU is not a strong name. Nobody who is a top student here is thinking LSU. And this is an SEC state.
3. Attracting out of state alumnus children is a great start to spreading the LSU name around the country.

And I apologize for my earlier comment.

As an out-of state grad. I agree with your point. I would give up my left nut for my high school boy to attend LSU, but with these budget cuts and the quality of education in question; we are looking at other options. Will continue to cut checks to the school (because of my education from LSU I live well) and support the university, but the lack of vision by La. goverment is on of the main reasons why we left.

To clarify, I am frustrated because I really thought LSU was moving in a strong direction to becoming a national university.

It's not about the money I have to pay. It's about us going back to competing with MSU, Ole Miss and Arkansas instead of the other direction.

I have one child there, and was excited about others going. Now, not so much. If they can get in somewhere better (and they can), I will say go for it. And honestly, it hurts to say that.

Mississippi and Arkansas are really 2 of the 14 states that will not get the budget cuts in education? Just wondering.

Wow, this is a huge deal. You have to wonder what all those Houston/Dallas parents and kids will be doing now.

I think a lot of states are seeing budget cuts but few like Lousiana in terms of higher ed. Lousiana can not cut anything other than higher ed and healthcare. You can take it to the bank that's not the case for most places.

I understand the position that LSU is taking but, it is a shame. I would like my son to attend LSU but, he can go to UCF and get a better education for a lot less.

Ironically, his mother is a UF graduate and their academic standards are so high that getting into UF is unlikely.

Damned shame.

Nothing wrong to going to school in Orlando with the talent they have there.

I can't disagree with that. It is awesome over there. I just wanted him to experience an SEC school.

At least he'll experience being around a much larger student body.

Florida is really easy. You basically have to live here for one year and have your own residence, power bill in your name and and Florida DL for 12 months. After that, you are a Florida resident.

Back in the day when I went to LSU you had to work ful time for one year. That would mean that you would have to drop out iof college for a year. It's no damned wonder people flee Louisiana once they graduate.
